SUMMARY
The R&D Engineer contributes to the development of software products features and design methodologies. As part of the Optics Solutions team, the R&D Engineer will collaborate with a group of expert professionals to accomplish development objectives to advance Ansys leadership in optics and photonics simulation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs basic development activities, including the design, prototyping, maintenance, testing and documentation of new design methodologies and product features.
  • Learns and employs best practices
  • Performs basic bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products.
  • Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions.
  • Works under the general supervision of a development manager or lead engineer.
  • Demonstrates software capabilities to customers, using industry-relevant examples.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor\'s degree in electrical engineering, physics, or related field, with knowledge of optics and photonics.
  • User experience of Ansys Lumerical software or knowledge of other commercial optical or photonic software packages.
  • Programming skills with Python, Matlab, or similar languages.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • MS degree preferred
  • Knowledge of photonic passive and active component design (e.g., waveguide, phase shifters, detectors, lasers), component data extraction, and circuit simulation.
  • Participation in photonic MPW runs and familiarity with photonic PDK.
  • Knowledge of electronic and/or photonic model development through SPICE, Verilog-A, Lumerical INTERCONNECT, or other similar model language.
  • Experience in using commercial design automation tools and workflows (e.g., Cadence, Siemens EDA, KLayout) for photonic and/or electronic design and tape-out.
  • Knowledge of photonic industry and ecosystem.
  • Basic understanding of the software development process.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distrib uted team.
