Our R&D team has an immediate opening for a permanent, full-time R&D Engineer. They will work with the Materials Research, Cell Chemistry, and Product Development teams to contribute to our development efforts to continuously improve lithium-ion battery research. The R&D Engineer will be a bridge between our scientific Research groups and our Engineering teams and is expected to initiate and lead projects that can include and have a high level of independence. Some examples of previous projects include; designing a single cell cooling system for high power cylindrical cell testing, measuring internal cylindrical cell temperature in operando. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct experiments alongside and with input from Scientists.
Manage various research projects in collaboration with Scientists.
Attend meetings with Research and Engineering teams.
Interact with outside companies to find technologies that we should invest resources in.
Design and draw up jigs, components, and machines to be manufactured on-site or sent out to be manufactured that will advance our research capabilities.
Identify and promote new concepts and techniques applied to commercially viable Li-ion cell designs.
Develop viable solutions to specific problems to improve existing designs.
Provide support and guidance to manufacturing in Taiwan by resolving problems as they arise.
Opportunity for periodic travel to Taiwan for research collaborations.
Regular communication with our team in Taiwan will require a flexible work schedule to accommodate discussions after regular office hours.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or materials engineering with related experience in the battery field.
Registered Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer.
Experience with 2D & 3D CAD software (eg. Solidworks, AutoCAD).
Applied knowledge of statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) is an asset.
A creative thinker who can contribute new and interesting techniques to advance company research, including an understanding of properties of various materials.
Skilled in data presentation, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Ability to communicate project needs, challenges, decisions, and proposed solutions. Regular presentations will be expected at the group and department levels.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with and direct people with varying backgrounds and levels of expertise.
Ability to lead projects and follow through to completion in a timely manner.
Have good business sense and understand how to translate corporate goals into daily activities and balance the two.
Expected to be able to work independently with limited guidance after one year.
Advanced knowledge and technical abilities in a variety of lab instruments and equipment.
