Position Overview:
We are looking for an individual with a dynamic professional background in Food Science to join our growing team for a full-time position! Reporting to the R&D Manager, this position is responsible for supporting key Research & Development activities, including sample preparation, assistance during plant and production trials, management of R&D trial documentation, conducting sensory evaluations, and coordinating shelf-life studies.
This hands-on role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment and is passionate about lab scale baking, product innovation, continuous improvement and quality. The successful candidate will actively support R&D initiatives across both our Mississauga and Vaughan facilities, contributing to the development and optimization of new and existing products.
The role requires strong cross-functional coordination, efficient organizational abilities, and an eye for creative detail. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable working across multiple departments, thinking creatively, and enjoys both strategic planning, and hands-on execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the preparation, lab scale baking, execution formulation for product samples, including sensory and lab trials and managing shipment to customers and sales team members.
Conduct test bakes and support new formulation development, support ingredient sourcing, lead sensory evaluation, and data collection for product approval with the internal team.
Support with process optimization, continuous improvement and troubleshooting from raw materials to finished products, ensuring food safety compliance and providing hands-on support during plant and production trials.
Record trial data, slice specifications, and observations for each product trial; maintain accurate documentation and suggest improvements for specs and process efficiency. Support the implementation of new or improved processes in the production environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Support initiatives that drive product consistency, reduce waste, and improve yield.
Adhere to NuStef's food safety, quality assurance, and hygiene protocols at all times. Perform other duties as assigned by theR&D Manager

Qualifications:
Achieved a diploma or bachelor's degree in food science, microbiology, or a related field.
Previous internship or 1-2 years' work experience in R&D, food manufacturing is a must.
Strong organizational and time management skills are important.
Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and solve problems effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Self-starter, motivated, proactive, and eager to learn.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Be able to stand for prolonged periods of time and perform repetitive tasks.
Lift and push up to 40Ibs.
Flexibility to work different shifts and occasional overtime, as required.
Work at Mississauga and Vaughan facilities based on project priorities, travelling between facilities as needed.
A desire to learn and having positive energy to engage others is a must
