This could be your everyday The mammalian display technologies team at Amgen BC is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic student to join the group. The successful co-op will be responsible for the development of methodologies involved in antibody discovery and screening. Tasks will include, but are not limited to, cell culture, transient/stable transfections, flow cytometry, high content screening, as well as molecular cloning and PCR. This work will contribute to the advancement of our antibody discovery technology platforms by creating new approaches in antibody screening and identification. This exciting opportunity will enable the co-op to gain practical scientific experience in one of the most promising areas of the biotechnology industry.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform cell and molecular biology techniques including mammalian cell culture, transfections, PCR, cloning and expression, flow cytometry, and high content screening.
  • Complete a research project that supports our antibody discovery platform or novel technology development efforts that are aligned with the department\xe2\x80\x99s objectives.
  • Experimental design, data analysis, and documentation.
  • Communicate data progress at internal meetings, give an oral presentation to the site at the completion of the term, and participate in scientific exchange with Amgen Scientists from other sites as opportunities arise.

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
  • 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
  • Enrolled in a full-time Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree concentration(s) in Biology, Immunology/Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, or related fields
  • Able to work for two consecutive four-month terms with continued employment for the second term dependent on a positive performance review at the end of the first term
  • Previous lab experience, completion of previous co-op term(s)
  • Prior experience in tissue culture or molecular biology is desired
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Interpersonal skills as well as excellent verbal, written communication & presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational, record keeping and time management skills
