The Opportunity



Insight Behaviour Support Services (Insight BSS) provides specialized clinical services for adults and children within the developmental services sector. Individuals that we support are typically dual diagnosed (e.g., development need and a mental health diagnosis) and reside in a small group home ('program'), a family home, or are living independently. A typical program includes between two to four individuals who are supported 24 hours a day 7 days a week by direct support workers.

The Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA) (formerly a BCBA) works as part of a multi-disciplinary, professional, support-based model to deliver individualized behaviour-based treatments plans for individuals with social, emotional, psychological and behavioural challenges. Important to note is that supported individuals can engage in high rates of behaviours such as aggression and self-injury. The successful candidate must be comfortable with these behaviours.

The RBA works closely with a variety of other roles including direct support workers (DSWs), Supervised Behaviour Therapists (SBTs), psychologists, psychiatrists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, schools, and other community placements. Our ideal candidate has the ability and willingness to collaborate effectively with these stakeholders along with agency partners and the families of our supported individuals to help our supported individuals achieve their developmental goals.

The RBA ensures proper assessment of behaviour and its functions through direct observation and measurement and pursues meaningful improvements for our supported individuals through the design, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of interventions derived from Applied Behavioural Analysis. This includes writing Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) and other documents that guide and report on the development of our supported individuals as well as the supervision of SBTs who implement those BSPs.

Responsibilities



The RBA is responsible for following the activities, subject to the needs of our supported individuals. In addition, the RBA is responsible for making clinical decisions for their clients and for the performance of the duties related to Applied Behaviour Analysis services provided to those clients.

Assessments



Assess behaviour and its functions using formal or informal (direct or indirect) observations and measurement and interpretation of results (e.g., stimulus preference assessment, functional assessment, experimental functional analysis, staff performance assessment) Determine client goals based on factors such as client preferences, supporting environments, risks, constraints, and social validity Discuss assessment results, goals, service options and progress with clients/mediators/caregivers Selection of appropriate interventions based on assessment results, supporting environments, risks, constraints, social validity, clinical experience, and supported by currently accepted scientific evidence

Interventions



Design, implement, and systematically monitor skill-acquisition and/or behaviour reduction programs Deliver ABA interventions directly (or through supervision of an SBT) to individuals who present with a range of skills, levels of functioning, and ages Conducts mediator (e.g., caregivers, direct support professionals) training using ABA procedures (e.g., behaviour skills training) Plans for and identifies unwanted effects of the recommended interventions Implement a full range of scientifically validated, behaviour analytic procedures (i.e., reinforcement, extinction, incidental teaching, and use of naturalistic teaching methods) Utilize (or supervise the use of) ABA tactics and procedures through direct, caregiver mediated and/or group intervention formats Train staff and/or caregivers as they deliver new or revised behavioural services Review the applicable literature on scientifically validated procedures Design and implement procedures targeting generalization of behaviour change Work collaboratively with professionals from other disciplines. Collaboration occurs in the best interests of the client and stakeholders Designs appropriate data collection and analysis forms/procedures to make data-based decisions to help monitor or modify intervention procedures Demonstrate adherence to professional ethical expectations, including, where applicable, billing, and administrative (office management) practices.

Supervision



Delegate to your supervisees only those responsibilities that such persons can reasonably be expected to perform competently, ethically, and safely. A supervisor cannot delegate any task that they themselves are not competent to perform Assign team members to implement behaviour plans and/or train caregivers to implement behaviour plans Observe interventions and assessments carried out by supervisees and/or mediators and monitor intervention fidelity Has sufficient direct contact with the client and/or their caregivers to ensure adequate service delivery Confirm that supervisees have and maintain competence to perform the tasks assigned to them, considering numerous factors, including skills, education, and experience Demonstrate an understanding of the limits of their competency and the importance of referring clients to other professionals when necessary Provide ongoing direction and guidance to staff to ensure services are being delivered correctly and effectively Reviews data and documentation produced by supervisees (behaviour plans, assessment outcomes, client progress Maintain detailed notes of progress, key decisions, and next steps When providing consultation services, provides clinical feedback for clinicians/Behaviour Analysts who carry their own caseload/support their own clients

Qualifications



Post secondary education in relevant field Member of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analyst of Ontario with an RBA certification according to changes that went into effect on July 1, 2024 Minimum of 2 years of previous related experience working in the social services field implementing intensive behavioural intervention plans, ideally in a group home setting for developmental adults and/or children with complex developmental needs, autism spectrum disorder, Schizophrenic spectrum disorders, mental illness and particularly for individuals with complex behaviours such as aggression and self-injury Preference given to experience working directly with individuals who have a dual diagnosis Knowledge of MCCSS regulatory requirements - mainly Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, 2008 (SIPDDA) and Child, Youth, and Family Services Act, 2017 (CYFSA) - along with Quality Assurance Management (QAM) requirements related to residential programs Ability to consolidate and interpret data and graphs and on that basis develop and implement intervention strategies and treatment programs Experience and comfort with staff training and support Experience working in a team setting is an important aspect of this position Strong interpersonal skills that will support collaboration with a team of caregivers Excellent oral and written communication skills
