The Rating Configurator works closely with the business systems analysts to develop and implement all sizes of rating, product and underwriting changes within Aviva's enterprise rating engines as well supporting any tools developed to facilitate this work. This role involves developing simple to complex code, taking part in development estimates, participating in code review and providing solutions to complex business problems.
What you'll doWork with business systems analysts to understand requirements for changes to be implemented in Guidewire rating engine and Earnix.
Complete assigned work independently, ensuring solutions meet business needs and coding standards.
Investigate complex system issues and implement solutions.
Prepare professional specifications documents for system changes.
Implement coding changes according to project or rate change program timelines and provide feedback to stakeholders on progress of development
Make rating logic changes and Gosu rating function changes directly in Guidewire rating engine and Earnix.
Participate in sprint/release planning and provide estimates.
Source control and code review using GIT/BitBucket/Stash.
Participate and provide input into key design sessions, as required.
Unit Test all system changes prior to implementation to ensure quality and accuracy.
Update and run automated test tools for rate changes.
Consult on projects and work with IT and Project Management Office as required.
Mentoring and training junior developers.
What You'll Bring3-5 years of experience in the insurance industry, with exposure to rating, pricing, or underwriting systems
3-5 years of hands-on systems experience, preferably supporting Guidewire Rating, Earnix, or similar pricing enablement platforms
Previous Guidewire Rating experience, including Product Model
Experience using Gosu and/or Java to support rating logic, extensions, and customizations.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access for rate analysis, validation, and data reconciliation
Strong working knowledge of Guidewire Rating, including rate tables, algorithms, modifiers, coverage terms, and versioning
Knowledge of algorithmic rating concepts and insurance pricing logic
Experience delivering work within Agile environments in collaboration with business and technical partners
Demonstrated project management experience supporting system enhancements, rating initiatives, or regulatory changes
Strong mathematical aptitude, with close attention to pricing accuracy and consistency
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, particularly in diagnosing and resolving rating discrepancies
Clear, confident communication skills to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders
Strong customer service orientation, balancing system integrity, business needs, and delivery timelines

What you'll getThe salary band for this position ranges from $70,000 to $100,000. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
