Job Description

Role:


We're seeking a highly motivated and experienced

RAMS Engineer

to specialize in

door systems for railway applications

. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our products meet stringent international and customer-specific

Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS)

requirements throughout the entire product lifecycle, from concept and design through validation and in-service operation. This role is critical in mitigating risks and ensuring the highest levels of passenger safety and system performance.

Tasks:



RAMS Analysis & Reporting:



Safety Engineering:

Perform

Hazard Analysis

and maintain the

Hazard Log

throughout the project. Define and verify

Safety Requirements

for hardware and software in collaboration with design teams. Develop the

Safety Case

and prepare

Safety Justifications/Certificates

required for system acceptance by regulatory bodies and customers. Ensure compliance with defined

Safety Integrity Levels (SIL)

, typically

SIL 2 to SIL 4

for critical railway door functions.

Design Support & Validation:

Provide input to the design team to ensure inherent

reliability and maintainability

are incorporated from the initial stages. Review and approve test specifications and procedures to ensure comprehensive

RAMS verification and validation

. Participate in

design reviews

(PDR, CDR) to assess RAMS implications.

Maintenance & Operation:



Develop

Life Cycle Cost (LCC)

models and analyses. Analyze field data,

failure statistics

, and maintenance records to identify reliability issues and propose corrective actions. Contribute to the development of effective

maintenance procedures

and

spares strategies

.

Documentation & Auditing:



Prepare and manage all necessary RAMS documentation for internal use, customer submission, and independent safety assessment (ISA). Support internal and external RAMS

audits and assessments

. Develop and implement

RAMS plans

and procedures in accordance with standards like

MIL-STD-882E,

EN 50126, EN 50128, and EN 50129 (CENELEC)

. Conduct detailed

Reliability Predictions

(e.g., using

MIL-HDBK-217F

or

FIDES

),

Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA/FMECA)

, and

Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

for door system components and sub-systems.

Requirements:



You:

Education:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

[3-5]+ years of experience in

RAMS engineering

, specifically within the

railway, aerospace, or automotive

(safety-critical) industries. Direct experience with

railway door systems

is highly desirable.

Technical Skills:

In-depth knowledge of international railway standards, particularly

MIL-STD-882E

and

CENELEC EN 50126/50128/50129 series

. Proficiency with RAMS techniques (

FMEA, FTA, Reliability Block Diagrams

). Familiarity with functional safety standards (e.g.,

IEC 61508

and its application in rail). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.

Soft Skills:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to present complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences (engineers, managers, customers). Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
