Salary Range: $59,605 - $72,568 per annum

Job Summary:
The Approaches to Community Wellbeing is a regional resource to 31 First Nations Communities. The Approaches to Community Wellbeing provides expertise, support, services, and programming in public health to the region. The program also supports communities in the development, implementation, and monitoring of their own Approaches to Community Wellbeing. The Safe Communities section of the model includes Environmental Concerns, Preventing Infectious Diseases, and Emergency Preparedness.

The Youth Facilitator will be a part of the Youth Development section of Raising our Children, and will work to engage youth, develop youth programming, and build community capacity.

The Youth Facilitator is directly responsible to the Raising our Children Manager.

Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment)

Qualifications:

  • Minimum grade 12 or GED
  • Diploma or degree in health related field an asset
  • Experience with public health and health issues affecting youth
  • Experience working with youth, and especially First Nations youth
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, i.e. Listening, oral and written English skills, public speaking, making presentations
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills
  • Must have excellent keyboarding skills, able to perform word processing, spreadsheets, graphics and use of other office equipment
  • Must be willing to travel
  • Valid driver\'s license is required
  • Ability to speak fluently in one of the Sioux Lookout Zone First Nations dialects is an asset
  • Experience and training in cultural competency with First Nations
  • Experience with social media
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Establishes and maintains a close working relationship with community health leadership and health staff to build capacity, promote awareness and self-determination in Youth Development programming and services
2. Works closely with regional high schools to support community wellbeing initiatives amongst youth
3. Develops and supports a social media strategy to engage youth and provide health promotionresources.
4. Support communities in establishing Youth Councils, and developing resources, best practices, andtemplates for them to follow
5. Support and build capacity of community-based workers through:
  • Acting as a mentor
  • Providing resources
  • Creating a network of youth workers
6. Build capacity of youth around priority health issues
7. Support funding for youth development programming through advocacy and writing funding/grantproposals
8. Conduct health promotion initiatives through community visits, school visits, videoconferences,webinars, radio shows, social media, etc.
9. Identify and develop potential partnerships for regional and community-based youthprogramming.
10. Develop and share best practices for youth community wellbeing programming
11. Promote SLFNHA\'s Approaches to Community Wellbeing
12. Actively participates on committees and other working groups as a representative for the SLFNHA
