Buffalo Rail & Infrastructure, in partnership with Torq Transloading, is constructing an industry leading rail-to-truck transload terminal in Taylor, British Columbia, located just 15 minutes from Fort Saint John. The facility will handle high-volume frac-sand logistics through automated, high-capacity storage domes and advanced truck-loading systems engineered for reliability, safety, and efficiency. As part of our first-phase commissioning, we're hiring motivated, safety-minded professionals to help launch a modern, efficient, and growth-focused operation.

Rail Operator - Trainee - Switching & Unloading / Yard Utility

Rail Operator - Trainee

and step into a hands-on role supporting safe, efficient rail yard operations. This is an excellent entry pathway for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude and experience in industrial, construction, mining, or bulk material handling environments.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with car line-up, coupling / uncoupling, hand brake application, and safe movement of railcars under supervision. Help set up frac sand unloading systems, operate car door openers, verify material flow, monitor equipment status, and complete housekeeping and equipment checks. Perform essential maintenance tasks such as track and switch cleaning and lubrication, snow / ice removal, and vegetation control. Shadow experienced operators to learn CROR fundamentals, site rules, safe-work permits, barricading, job briefing practices and radio communication protocols. Work toward becoming a qualified RCM operator with proficiency in non-main track operating procedures. Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Mechanical aptitude; experience in rail, construction, mining, or industrial sites an asset. Willingness to train on CROR, RCM / Loci operation, non-main track switching and maintenance operations, and site safety systems. Background in the energy sector, bulk material handling or transload experience (oil & gas / frac sand) is considered an asset. Heavy equipment operation, forklift, AWP, skid steer or telehandler operation considered an asset. eRailSafe qualified (or ability to obtain), Class 5 license. Capable of walking the rail line, climbing stairs, and comfortable working outdoors.

Compensation is competitive, with an annual range of $80,000 to $115,000, aligned with experience.
