Our fleet has grown to include more than 30,5000 special purpose tank and freight cars. Procor also operates 28 repair locations servicing the petroleum, petrochemicals, plastics, chemicals, fertilizers and food markets.
We have an exciting opportunity for a reliable Rail Car Mechanic. This position reports to the Supervisor - Nanticoke, and services our Customer in Nanticoke, Ontario based out of our Waterford, Ontario location. Job Summary:
Principal duties in this position are including but not limited to:
Car repairs involving cutting and welding (SMAW) on the safety appliances.
Preparing and maintaining documentation for completion of rail car repairs in compliance with regulatory standards
Perform necessary repairs to Hopper, Tank railcars and their components, light and medium-duty mechanical repairs, wheel pair, truck components, coupler components servicing, changing out loading valves, airbrake testing, rail car bubble leak testing, etc.
Inbound rail car inspections as required
Read, comprehend, and follow repair orders and procedures
Other related duties as assigned
The normal work schedule for this role is forty (40) hours per week, 10 hours a day 6am to 4:30 pm, with rotating shifts. (5 days on, 3 off for one month then 4 on and 4 off for the next month); however, this schedule may change as business requirements dictate.
Requirements:
Welding experience (SMAW)
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong mechanical background with competent and safe use of hand tools and power equipment
Must be able to read and understand written work orders, material safety data sheets, complete work write-ups, and other paper and computer work
Prior railcar repair experience or similar, and knowledge of AAR standards an asset but not required
Perform and document quality control checks as required by Company and regulatory quality standards
Adhere to both customer site and Procor's health and safety standards (including the Responsible Care policy), and wear the required personal protective equipment for the job in a safe manner
Must be able to work in an environment with continuous exposure to outdoor weather conditions with dust, fumes, and noise
The ability to work while wearing respiratory protection
WHMIS training, experience dealing with hazardous commodities
Must be able to climb, stoop, and bend repeatedly, carry hand and power tools.
Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, around machinery, and in conditions where there are loud noises and fumes
Confined space entry (If required)

Excellent time management skills
The ability to work independently or within a team
Demonstrate a strong initiative and a positive proactive approach at all times
Valid driver's license required and reliable transportation to get to and from work
