The
Radio Technician (Telecommunications)
is responsible to program, install, test, troubleshoot, and repair communications equipment at the repair centre and job site. Technicians who are certified for tower work will also erect towers, install antennas and cabling.
About You:
The ideal person will have a diploma in electronics or wireless communications engineering technology with hands on experience testing, installing, programming, and repairing wireless and electronic communication equipment and systems. You have good analytical, problem-solving, trouble-shooting and mechanical skills and have a can-do attitude, practice safety first and are not afraid of hard work.
About the Job:
The Radio Communications Technician will be responsible to program, install, test, troubleshoot, and repair communications equipment directly on the customer site providing hands on support to our clients.
Must Haves:
2 year diploma in electronics or communications engineering technology or related field with 2 years of work experience/4-year bachelor's degree in electronics combined with related work experience
Valid Alberta Class 5 Operator's License with a clean driving record within the last 5 years
Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing on a regular and frequent basis for access to client site
Basic diagnostic and radio programming
Ability to use a multimeter to test various radio functionality parameters as well as a spectrum analyzer
Basic point to point and point to multipoint microwave deployment and setup experience
Experience installing portable audio or radio equipment into all forms of light duty and heavy-duty vehicles
Electrical Wiring codes and best practices
Knowledge of hand and power tools, test equipment and design/fabrication techniques
Experience working with Wireless networking switches and routers
Assets include:
Experience working with Motorola and Kenwood portable radio equipment
Experience with large volume radio systems directly on client site
Prior experience working with Motorola, Kenwood, Icom or Harris Radios an asset
Trailer towing and heaving construction or mine driving experience an asset
Prior work experience in heavy industry, oil and gas, and or mining sector
