The Radio Service Technician position is:

Fly In/Fly Out.

7/7 Rotation (7 days on & 7 days off).

Flights are provided out of the Edmonton, AB & Calgary, AB.

POSITION SUMMARY:





The Radio Technician is responsible to program, install, test, troubleshoot, and repair communications equipment at the repair centre and job site. Radio Technicians who are certified for tower work will also erect towers and install antennas and cabling at heights over 3 metres.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:




Testing by means of watt meter, multimeter, antenna diagnostics, DTF, basic service monitor use, modulation, channel bandwidths and signal levels Install wireless communications equipment in stationary and mobile applications including light, medium & heavy-duty vehicles and equipment Basic RF Reading and understanding of engineering drawings/documents Adherence to all Safety policies and procedures Demonstrate professionalism & acts as ambassador of Tridon Install, maintain, and repair SmartNet/SmartZone trunked radio systems, Conventional radio systems, MotoTRBO radio systems, TDM multiplexing equipment including T1 applications and wired/wireless LAN and WAN data networks Program Conventional/MotoTRBO/Trunking mobile and portable radio equipment Install, maintain, and repair of broadband satellite systems Install, maintain, and tune antenna multi-coupler systems, duplexers and transmit combiners Accurately record time and materials on service orders for all assigned work using NetSuite operations and procedures pertaining to the Technical Services Department Complete accurate Labour, Equipment and Material forms (LEM's) and Job Hazard Assessments (JHA's) Complete required inspection sheets (Vehicle) Assist, guide, and mentor employees and/or trainees Participate in travel, overtime, and on-call duties as required Install and maintain antenna systems on towers to 500' while complying with safety requirements, tower rigging, and fall arrest procedures (when certified tower climber) Basic Trunking PMP/PtP programming Site surveys Antenna diagnostics Advanced radio programming Network cable testing, duplex operation, spectrum analysis, use of return loss bridge IP Basics Multicoupler/Combiner tuning BDA installing and troubleshooting Loss calculations Cable management Advanced diagnostics BER, identify test set capabilities Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:




2-year diploma in electronics or communications engineering technology or related field with 2 years of work experience/4-year bachelor's degree in electronics combined with related work experience Basic diagnostic and radio programming Ability to use a multimeter to test various radio functionality parameters as well as a spectrum analyzer Basic point to point and point to multipoint microwave deployment and setup experience Experience installing portable audio or radio equipment into all forms of light duty and heavy-duty vehicles Electrical Wiring codes and best practices Knowledge of hand and power tools, test equipment and design/fabrication techniques Recreational trailer towing experience (fifth wheel or camper trailer). Experience working with Wireless networking switches and routers Hands-on Tools & Test Equipment: Knowledge of hand and power tools, test equipment, and design/fabrication techniques.

Asset




Experience working with Motorola and Kenwood portable radio equipment Experience with large volume radio systems directly on client site Prior experience working with Motorola, Kenwood, Icom or Harris Radios an asset Trailer towing and heaving construction or mine driving experience an asset Prior work experience in heavy industry, oil and gas, and or mining sector

Other Requirements




Full, valid, and current driver's license Clean 5-year driver's abstract Clear Criminal Background Check Successful completion of a Pre-Access Drug & Alcohol test, with ongoing random testing as required by clients
