Your Opportunity:The Radiation Therapy (RT) Equipment Service Team at the Cross Cancer Institute is looking for a temporary RT equipment service specialist. You must have appropriate experience and training in servicing complex medical radiation therapy systems and related quality control equipment, as well as superior equipment troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. The RT Equipment Service Specialist is a member of the Medical Physics team responsible for managing the life cycle of medical radiation therapy systems and quality control equipment in the Radiation Therapy Department at the Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) in Edmonton.Description:As a Radiation Therapy Equipment Service Specialist, you are responsible for managing the life cycle of medical radiation therapy systems and quality control equipment. Team members are committed to excellence and take pride in providing superior service for this complex and highly specialized equipment. The RT Equipment Service Specialist provides primary in-house service by performing expert level work in troubleshooting, diagnosing software and hardware problems, and resolving routine maintenance and engineering issues. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, servicing, maintaining, repairing, installing, decommissioning, calibrating, troubleshooting, application support, and ensuring the safety of equipment and systems used for radiation therapy. Activities include part sourcing and purchasing, system fault analysis and component level troubleshooting, and may require small-scale circuit design, performing trend analysis using complex and often novel data gathering methods to assess performance deterioration of complex systems.

Required Qualifications:Completed electronics technology, biomedical technology, electronics engineering technology or instrumentation engineering technology diploma program from a recognized institution. In-depth knowledge of PLC, analog and digital electronic circuitry, and thorough understanding of electronic and electro-mechanical devices. Ability to read and understand multi-level electronic schematic drawings. Additional Required Qualifications:Full service experience with radiation therapy and related quality control equipment (preferably 7 or more years). Solid computer skills including maintenance and management of complex computer-based systems, computer networks, and software. Excellent interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills. Must be able to deal effectively with all members of multidisciplinary healthcare and scientific teams, as well as vendor and parts personnel. Superior service and troubleshooting skills: ability to resolve the most difficult equipment and system problems, sometimes with minimal assistance from the vendor or manufacturer; highly motivated and a self-starter; keen observation skills and strong deductive reasoning; very high attention to detail and quality of workmanship; dedicated and conscientious with a proven ability to get desired results; ability to efficiently prioritize workflow issues and problems; ability to perform under significant pressure to bring equipment back to operation; meticulous, safety conscious and a strong commitment to quality. Must have a strong work ethic plus ability to work independently and as an effective team member. Good organizational skills and ability to meet competing priorities. Previous authorization to service CNSC Class II Nuclear devices is desirable. Preferred Qualifications:Please provide details of your training and equipment expertise. Position is designated as a Radiation Worker/Nuclear Energy Worker. Required RW/NEW training will be provided as part of new staff orientation. Position falls within the scope of the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA). Position works a compressed work schedule.
