Under the supervision of the Clinical Director or Clinical Manager, the Quick Access Counsellor will work with families and youth to promote change and growth within the family, home, school and community. Using a variety of theoretical frameworks the Quick Access Counsellor will provide a combination of family, individual and group therapy for clients.
Qualifications/Conditions of Employment:
Master's Degree in Social Work or a relevant discipline (i.e. psychology, counselling, education)
Must be registered and in good standing with an appropriate professional regulatory college (e.g. Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario,).
Training in Crisis Intervention, Brief and Single Session Therapy, Risk Assessment, and Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioural Therapies are considered assets.
Training in Suicide Risk Assessment and Support is an asset.
Preference of 3 years' experience in youth mental health and experience providing crisis intervention with children, youth and families is preferred.
Travel is required for this position, a valid class G Ontario driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle and an acceptable driving record.
Knowledge of EMHware/interRAI assessment tools is an asset

DUTIES:
Clients
As a member of a multi-disciplinary team the Quick Access Counsellor will have primary responsibility in supporting the Quick Access Clinic through provision of Single Session Therapy.
As part of the Quick Access Team, they will provide back-up support for referrals through the Crisis Line. This could include up to three stabilization sessions for youth and their families exhibiting high risk presentations.
There will be the possibility of carrying a small caseload of clients requiring short-term therapy.
The Quick Access Counsellor would conduct assessments, compile histories and formulate a clinical formulation; this would include developing an understanding of the personal and environmental causes of behaviour and emotional dysfunction of families and youth. This is a crucial part of the job as it determines the course of treatment for clients.
Through the process of therapy, the counsellor will work with families and youth to develop treatment plans to improve the emotional, behavioural and interpersonal well-being of clients in achieving optimum psychosocial functioning.
Critically evaluate and analyze information using multiple theoretical and conceptual bases in making professional, clinical judgments.
Liaise with other disciplines, jurisdictions and community resources in delivering and evaluating treatment plans.
Have independent work habits that require minimal supervision and direction.
To make clinical recommendations for services based on the adolescent's needs.
To develop, evaluate, modify and/or revise treatment plans.
To provide service by any one or a combination of recognized clinical methods including individual, family and group counseling.
To work effectively in conjunction with other community agencies in the development and delivery of treatment services for the adolescents in the program.
To participate in conferences and group discussions concerning adolescents in the program. To work cooperatively and negotiate effectively within the program and the agency and to maintain liaison with other disciplines, jurisdictions, community and outside resources.
Administration
Document treatment planning and maintain appropriate agency reports.
Ensure that all reports are kept in order and up-to-date, including: safety planning / risk assessment, case contact notes, treatment goals and reviews, EMHware, ChYMH, etc.
Follow agency guidelines regarding percentage of direct service hours provided to families and youth.
Provide input into program evaluations and development.
Case manages clients and has regular contact with clients on the wait list.
At the discretion of the Clinical Director/Clinical Manager, the Quick Access Counsellor may supervise college or university students on field placements from a recognized college or university
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
In conjunction with their manager, participate in regular supervision sessions and an annual performance evaluation.
Attend and participate in scheduled team meetings.
Attend and participate in In-Service training as scheduled and required and attend recommended professional development opportunities
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in various settings (such as office, work from home, client's home, community)
Work hours and schedules are set by the Clinical Director/Clinical Manager and will involve a minimum of two evenings a week.
Requirement to drive and have access to a reliable vehicle.
Provide back-up to the Crisis Worker when needed.
May be required to work with aggressive and/or volatile clients.
