Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the Q.A. Technician is responsible for segregating, sorting, and disposition of non-conforming products. This position oversees all vendor quality issues identified in production and warehouse, creates VNCRs, coordinates cost recovery submissions to Procurement, receives root cause analyses and corrective actions from vendors and maintains the VNCR log.
The role will also provide support to the SQF, HACCP and GMP programs through auditing activities and report to management on program status, deficiencies and corrective actions taken to ensure program compliance is maintained.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:
Segregating Non-Conforming Products
Coordinate with Warehouse to ensure that pallets are prepared and staged for the inspection area for a continuous 24 hour/7 day per week operation
Obtain Scrap Authorization acknowledgement from Management for dispositioned product
Carry out product disposition upon receiving the necessary approvals
Track sorting results such as defects types, rates, and determine scrap amount
Liaise with Receiving Coordinator and Customer Service to determine quantity of customer returns
Monitor associated areas in ERP system (ie. In LX: QC - 02 and QC - 08 Warehouse)
Collaborate with relevant departments within TO Production, Engineering, and Warehouse for segregating and sorting non-conforming products
Coordinate with LS facility, as required, to facilitate ship tests
Provide daily status report to Management team
Maintain all documentation in an orderly, audit-ready manner
Maintain Vendor Non-Conformance Reports (VNCRs)
Attend Printing & Molding meetings to determine if root cause of the non-conformance is vendor related or due to an internal processes.
Assess risk and degree of urgency of non-conformance and escalate in a timely fashion.
Defective raw material control
Manage the hold and release of materials based on disposition decisions from the vendor and Management
Work with team to determine cost of impact from Non-conformances.
Prepare VNCR for submission to vendor
Enter information in VNCR and maintain VNCR log
Finalize disposition of raw material / finished goods for sorting or verification
Determine cost of impact for defective finished goods sorted or verified and charged back to Vendor
Coordinate with Warehouse the disposition of material by sorting/verification, scrapping, or return to inventory
Coordinate with Inventory Analyst and Procurement for necessary adjustments in LX
Review vendor corrective action with Procurement and Quality for finalization and closure of VNCR
New Product Launch
Printing - reviews all samples provided from Printing for all new jobs to ensure it matches the created standard (dry-off-set) or the supplier standard (sleeves or stickers)
Molding - create IML standards
Receives/files sleeve and IML supplier standards
Perform cGMP, Glass & Brittle Plastic, and Internal Audits
Perform monthly cGMP audits. Prepare reports, log and escalate to Management team for corrective action on HACCP non-compliance issue
Perform monthly Glass & Brittle Plastic audits. Prepare reports, log and submit to Management team for corrective action for non-conformance.
Present cGMP/Glass & Brittle audit findings at monthly meetings to relevant department managers and/or Management team.
Follow up with the department manager responsible for findings that require correction and confirm sign-off of the audit report by department manager and QA manager.
Perform internal audits as per internal audit yearly schedule and coordinate responses in accordance with the internal procedure.
Back-up Duties
Provide back-up to QA Supervisor - Printing and Molding as required
Provide back-up to Corporate Quality Document Control Specialist on managing training records for SQF/HACCP/GMP associated TO Communications meetings

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Educational Requirements:
Post-secondary education, preferably in food safety, quality, manufacturing or (printing) technology.
Minimum Experience/Field:
Minimum 3 - 5 years of technical experience in a fast paced, high volume lean manufacturing environment. Experience in injection molded plastics and/or food packaging industry preferred.
General knowledge of injection molding and thermoforming processes
Good PC skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Knowledge and experience with SAP will be considered an asset.

Physical Requirements:
This job requires adjusting to a variety of working environments, such as office, manufacturing plant and warehouse conditions. In the plant and warehouse areas, the incumbent will be subjected to high levels of noise and dust. Hours of work are variable.
