Job Description


Job Purpose:

As the Quality Manager, you will be accountable for overseeing all aspects of plant process and product quality, ensuring compliance with internal specifications, certifying agency requirements, and meeting customer expectations. In this role, you will lead continuous improvement efforts at the plant to enhance process and product consistency. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and executing plant-level strategic goals that align with the broader business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Prioritize safety by strictly adhering to safety rules and regulations and actively participating in facility health and safety activities. Take a proactive approach to identify and perform tasks that maintain and improve safety, quality, and environmental performance.

Ensure plant compliance with all internal product specifications, certifying agency guidelines, and corporate and business quality policies.

Provide strong leadership on all quality-related aspects to the Plant Business Team, Supervisors, Quality Staff, and throughout operations.

Effectively manage and provide guidance to the plant Quality staff through coaching, training, mentoring, and performance monitoring.

Develop and update the Quality Manual, Control Plans, SSOPs, and JSAs for all quality tasks. Ensure that required training for the Quality department is completed and documented according to policies.

Develop process quality control plans and ensure that plant operations personnel receive proper training to execute plans effectively.

Lead efforts to enhance the plant\'s quality culture by identifying skill gaps among plant operations personnel and quality staff and implementing appropriate training and development initiatives.

Actively participate in plant capital planning and execution processes, contributing insights to enhance quality-related aspects.

Develop and execute plant strategic goals that align with business objectives, ensuring that quality systems support these goals effectively.

Lead and execute process optimization initiatives, including cost reduction, new technology implementation, continuous process improvement, and experimental design.

Manage the plant quality department, including budgeting and staffing responsibilities.

Train, coach, and conduct performance evaluations for plant Quality employees, supporting their professional growth and development.

Act as a key member of the plant business team, actively engaging in various activities to contribute to overall plant success.

Lead plant Quality self-assessment and support internal Quality audits, taking necessary actions to address issues and ensure corrective measures are implemented.

Identify, coordinate, and conduct training for employees in areas such as experimental design, statistical process control, process improvement, and quality management systems.

Participate as a member of the Lean Six Sigma sponsor team, leveraging best practices to drive continuous improvement.

Apply business best practices as appropriate to enhance plant quality and efficiency.

Perform all duties in strict accordance with safety rules and regulations.

Requirements for Success:

A Bachelor\'s degree in Forest Products, Engineering, Wood Science, or a related field is strongly preferred.

ASQ Certification, Lean Six Sigma Training, or other applicable Quality or continuous improvement training is desirable.

Possess a minimum of 5+ years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Demonstrate hands-on experience in implementing business and corporate strategies, such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), Quality Management Systems, and Continuous Improvement.

Showcase expertise in troubleshooting, problem-solving, Quality Management Systems, Continuous Improvement, and Project Management.

Possess thorough knowledge of quality systems, manufacturing capabilities, and process optimization.

Demonstrate a strong understanding of statistical analysis and experimental design.

Have in-depth knowledge of customer requirements, compliance regulations, quality processes, and procedures.

Exhibit exceptional leadership, planning, coaching, training, and management skills.

Prove proficiency in project management and the ability to implement corporate and business strategies.

Showcase the ability to evaluate and optimize test procedures, define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.

Demonstrate competence in managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Possess proficiency in computer operation and using supporting software, including Microsoft Office.

Have a working knowledge of statistical software applications.

Exhibit excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
