Following a significant expansion, the OSCO Construction Group rebranded its ready-mix concrete operations as OSCO Concrete in 2009, making it one of the largest ready-mix players in the Atlantic Region, operating the largest pump fleet, in both number and size. Job Summary
The Quality Engineer will create, optimize and monitor concrete mix designs for a variety of ready-mix products. This position is responsible for working collaboratively to guide and support various operational departments within all Ready-Mix locations throughout the Maritime provinces. The Quality Engineer is responsible to ensure common, consistent quality control procedures across our ready-mix plants, as well as to assist in reinforcing a culture where quality is a primary focus. The ideal candidate must be a problem solver with hands-on leadership skills who thrives in a fast-paced multi-project environment.
Responsibilities

  • Design, monitor, troubleshoot and optimize concrete mixes for all Atlantic ready-mix plants including specialty mixes
  • Evaluate current and potential material suppliers for product performance and compliance with standards
  • Review technical specifications for pre-bid scope review
  • Prepare submittal packages and ensure compliance with job specifications
  • Coordinate with customers and government bodies for technological advances, alternative methods and continuous improvement models for the department
  • Travel throughout the Maritimes to provide supervision, support and training to internal and external customers
  • Manage and continuously improve the overall Quality Program for all plants according to CSA and Industry Standards
  • Planning and coordinating field / plant and laboratory testing of construction materials including those produced at our Sand & Gravel operations
  • Develop repair procedures for defective product which permanently restores appearance, durability and structural capacity
  • Modify or implement procedures which maintain high product quality
  • Additional duties as assigned
Technical Requirements
  • Bachelor of Engineering degree with a focus in civil, or a similar discipline
  • Academic or industry exposure to concrete mix design / materials engineering
  • Professional Engineering designation or an Engineer in Training with P.Eng eligibility
  • Supervisory experience in the concrete industry would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of CSA, ASTM and relevant provincial transportation standards and specifications
  • Obtain and maintain relevant concrete testing certifications (ACI, CSA, etc.) as needed based on project/business requirements
