Job Description


Reporting to the Production Manager, the plant Safety and Quality manager\'s mission is to coordinate the implementation and continuation of the facilities health, safety and environmental strategic plan in accordance with the standards, laws, and regulations in force. You stay abreast of best practices and promote the OHS culture to management, and act as a resource person for the authorities and partners concerned in the event of problems. You also support the management team in the implementation and continuation of standardized and highly valued OHS processes, practices, and tools. This way, you actively contribute to the achievement of your facilities business objectives while having a direct influence on the creation of a healthy and safe work environment.

Individual responsibilities

  • Promote OHS culture among unit management personnel
  • Effectively coordinate OHS activities and reporting (audits, investigations, emergency measures, OHS committee, etc.)
  • Rigorously monitor performance indicators and analyze the results
  • Contribute, as OHS expert, to implementing and continuing your group\'s strategic plan within your plant
  • Help to implement and sustain the OHS management system and training
  • Support your plant management in implementing and sustaining the OHS strategy
  • Advise your plant management on best practices in OHS
  • Support your management team in risk prevention and OHS problem solving
  • Ensure the continuity of the first aid program and ensure a sufficient number of first aiders
  • Assess location emergency response plan, ensuring an emergency response team is in place and meeting regularly, and assisting in implementing the ERP with the employees.
  • Assess locations environmental programs, conducting audits and assessments to help ensure compliance with the company expectations and legal authorities, and audit implementation of the programs.
  • Foster a positive safety culture by building human and organizational performance to strengthen our cultural and develop error-tolerant systems to better protect our employees.
  • Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Lead all quality RCAs to completion, including managing customer complaints and driving product quality improvements.
  • Contribute to Quality Pillar Meetings, addressing voice of customer, quality assurance and quality control.
  • Creates and maintains a Quality Assurance system to ensure compliance with regulations and requirements to obtain and maintain QA Certifications.
  • Responsible for lab and precision equipment, including calibrating, maintaining, testing procedures and annual certifications.
  • Support the execution of tasks related to quality assurance processes & control, in close collaboration with our production team. (i.e: quality of raw materials and finished products, non-conformities management & trial management)
  • Coordinate daily activities related to quality standards in accordance with established systems and certifications (RPTA, FSC & others)
  • Act as a central collaborator within site and supporting services by developing technical knowledge of our products and processes.
  • Contribute to improving the quality of processes and products by coordinating the necessary activities in relation to customer needs
  • Act as site representative during new products/ingredients trials, connecting with different stakeholders (internal & external)
  • Responsible for monitoring and executing the schedule of quality-related activities (internal, external audits, etc.).
  • Ensure the implementation of performance indicators, and their monitoring.
  • Follow up on corrective and preventive actions (internal and external) with managers and offer them the necessary support to ensure their effectiveness.
Experiences and strengths
  • Post -secondary degree or diploma related to Health and Safety.
  • Certification or accreditation with a professional safety board (CRSP, CSP or equivalent, or in the process of attaining designation).
  • Extensive knowledge of the Health and Safety Act, provincial regulations, and WCB programs.
  • Knowledge of OHS laws and standards
  • 5+ years experience in this role
  • Manufacturing experience required, Pulp & Paper, converting experience an asset
  • experience preferably within a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Comfortable with performing physically demanding tasks at times
  • Ability to develop, implement, sustain and as necessary, train, new safety programs, procedures and policies.

Your challenge!

Reporting to the Manager, the Quality Coordinator\'s mission is to participate in the realization of his or her unit\'s business strategy by contributing to the action plans\' development as an expert in quality assurance and continuous improvement. You rigorously carry out quality tests, test plans and audits in accordance with the various programs\' quality standards in effect. You also collaborate with operations supervisors in tools\' development that promote a culture of continuous improvement in the unit. In this way, you actively contribute to the optimization of your unit\'s operational efficiency.
