In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Unit Supervisor, responsible for maintaining the quality control activities of the Unit and taking appropriate corrective action, including instrument troubleshooting and maintenance. Under the direction of the Unit Supervisor, and with collaboration from the Technical Coordinator and/or Technical Specialist, performs method and instrument evaluations and interprets results. Performs routine and additional laboratory procedures as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. Successful completion of a recognized diploma program in Medical Laboratory Technology. Three (3) years recent related experience. Thorough knowledge of quality control and method and instrumentation evaluation procedures related to the appropriate laboratory discipline.

Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of computer systems related to the Laboratory.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others including staff, patients and medical staff.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
