to oversee and verify the quality of components and assemblies produced by external vendors. This is a highly mobile role requiring frequent travel to supplier sites to conduct on-site, in-process inspections and ensure that all fabrication work complies with engineering specifications and quality standards.
The ideal candidate will have extensive fabrication and welding experience, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to clearly and professionally communicate requirements. This individual will act as a key representative of our company, ensuring that vendors uphold our expectations and deliver consistent, high-quality work.
Responsibilities
Perform on-site quality inspections at supplier facilities during active fabrication and assembly processes.
Ensure all material, welds, assemblies, and finishes, meet contractual and technical requirements.
Verify conformance to engineering drawings, tolerances, welding procedures, and technical requirements.
Maintain a visible presence during critical stages of vendor production to proactively address any deviations or risks.
Enforce company quality standards and ensure vendors understand and comply with all requirements.
Document inspection results, issue reports on non-conformances, and follow up on corrective actions.
Serve as a reliable, objective point of contact between the vendor and internal departments (Purchasing, Project Management, and Quality Control)
Support supplier evaluations, onboarding, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Track supplier performance trends and escalate recurring issues to internal stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of experience in fabrication, welding, or mechanical assembly inspection, with strong exposure to shop-floor environments.
Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, welding symbols, and fabrication specifications.
Hands-on experience inspecting welds, materials, and assemblies in real time during production.
Excellent verbally and written communications skills with the confidence to speak with authority on quality issues.
Strong organizational and documents skills, familiar with quality reporting and inspections records.
Recognized certifications (e.g. CWB, AWS, NDT Level l/ll) are an asset.
Experience in an automotive, structural steel, custom equipment, heavy manufacturing, or similar industries preferred.
Comfortable working independently and managing a dynamic travel schedule.
Valid driver's licences and passport required.
Working Environment
Frequent travel to vendors sites (typically 4-5 days/weeks)
Inspections performed in fabrications shops, welding bays, industrial environments.
Must be comfortable with physical inspections activities including climbing, lifting, and use of PPE
