The Quality Control Inspector (Level 1) is responsible for utilizing their technical expertise, as well as assisting with audits, tests, and inspections. This role is comprised of identifying and recording risk as it relates to quality including identifying production, process, or product issues while striving for continual improvement. The Quality Control Inspector (Level 1) monitors the Northern Strands Group of Companies (NSGC) Quality Management System (QMS), maintains quality records, updates documentation, and streamlines best practices using the ISO standards of compliance as a benchmark for the company\xe2\x80\x99s quality programs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Internal Quality Inspections
  • General inspection duties which require sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and crouching for extended periods in addition to lifting a maximum of 50 lbs
  • Quality Assurance and Quality Control Inspector duties will be conducted in Saskatoon shops and on industrial or mining sites, as required
  • Ensure that all requirements for quality are maintained, verified, and communicated
  • Monitor the internal fabrication department within Fortis by following quality specifications as indicated by client and with Fortis company standards
  • Complete random verification batch testing throughout various stages of production
    • Perform material inspection, dimensional inspection to analysis, and end of line inspection of final product
  • Assist with developing checklists and processes for reviewing and ensuring the quality of incoming product from suppliers
  • Assist with investigating quality issues related to shipping and receiving goods
    • Perform material receiving inspections
  • Ensure that materials and calibrated tool inspections are effectively carried out
  • Communicate with all internal departments to coordinate scheduling for quality testing
  • Follow and assist in the development process of Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), as required
  • Generate, maintain, and track weld and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) mapping and inspection reports
  • Fulfil the duties of primary Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) Weld Supervisor, when required

External Quality Inspections
  • Ensure that requirements for quality are maintained and updated at all levels of the Group of Companies
  • Travel to external Fortis job sites and interact with the site Quality Coordinator(s) to ensure that quality criteria and best practices are followed as indicated by client specifications
  • Assist with developing onsite checklists and processes for reviewing and ensuring quality on incoming products from suppliers
    • Receiving inspection process
  • Conduct a quality audit plan outlining the objectives for site visits to be reviewed with the Quality Manager prior to departure
  • Provide site quality summary reports to the Quality Manager upon return from Fortis job sites
  • Participate and address customer concerns and provide input to the customer satisfaction evaluation process
  • Work with external ISO Auditors during the Fortis annual recertification audit
  • Develop and conduct quality audits on suppliers, as required
  • Ensure site actions comply with government, client, and corporate health and safety requirements

Non-Conformance & Reports
  • Identify non-conformances and track the corrective and preventative actions throughout the manufacturing process until successful implementation
  • Follow up on all Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) or areas for improvement to ensure continual improvement and growth while maintaining active corrective actions logs for these occurrences
  • Assist with reporting any defects to all relevant departments and implement a plan for corrective action
  • Address and discuss issues and proposed solutions with supervisory staff
  • Identify and resolve workflow and production issues with the guidance of the Quality Manager
  • Assess employee skill and competency levels to prevent any rework or oversights during production
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
  • Minimum two years of experience in a Quality Assurance (QA) and/or Quality Control (QC) role within a manufacturing setting is preferred
  • Knowledge of basic NDE and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) procedures and requirements, is required
  • Ability to interpret drawings, Drawing Interchange Formats (DXFs), and weld symbols
  • Knowledge of CWB W47.1 and W59 practices
  • Hold a valid CWB level 1 Weld Inspector\xe2\x80\x99s Certificate or higher endorsement
  • Possess CWB Weld Supervisor Certification
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.1 Power Piping and B31.3 Process Piping would be an asset
  • Coating Inspector Training (NACE/AMPP level 1 or level 2) would be an asset
  • Experience working with ISO compliance and QMS would be an asset
  • Working knowledge of tools, methods, and concepts of QA and QC
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Valid class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license required
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
