The Quality Control Inspector will report directly to the Operations Manager.
This position will be responsible for completing produce inspections, providing inspection details to the sales team and providing support our ripening team. Since produce is highly perishable, you will be working in a fast-paced environment. Your ability to verify the quality and condition of produce items to determine if products meet CFIA/USDA standards will help assure the quality and freshness of inbound and outbound shipments to retail and foodservice customers.
This role functions out of our Calgary Distribution Centre, located at 110 - 5675 58 Ave SE, Calgary, Alberta. This role requires flexibility to work early mornings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and enforce Gambles' quality specifications
Perform and report quality assessments during live inbound receiving
Follow up on any items already received, put-away; but not quality-controlled
Outbound quality control checks for select customers
Daily review of cooler checklist to identify and report sub-par product for disposition
#2/Rejection/Return, assessment, reporting, and handling (transfers, RTS coordination)
3rd Party Inspections
Coordinate CFIA inspections as required
Provide support and coverage as needed to the Ripening team.
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications and Personal Attributes:
Post-secondary education in food science, natural science and/or agriculture
Knowledge, prior experience and familiarity of CFIA grading standards and produce specifications would be considered an asset
Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to lift 50lbs and work in a warehouse environment
Intermediate computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
Familiar with use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Strong organizational and time management skills
Self-starter that identifies priorities and takes initiative
Flexible and adaptable to an ever-changing environment
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
