The Quality Assurance Technician is part of a key functional work group responsible for the preparation of cooked sauces, meats, and starch components. They are punctual, reliable, professional, and completely familiar with the operation of the factory, and work with the Department Supervisor, and Management group to achieve the established factory goals. This role reports to the Quality Assurance Supervisor.
Responsibilities
Work effectively as a team member with other quality assurance personnel and must effectively interact with production, warehouse personnel. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Major Duties of the Position:
Understands the safety risk and environmental impact of their activities
Responsible for analytical testing such as pH, Aw, colour and sensory analysis
Conduct raw material testing
Testing of semi-finished and finished product against specifications for customer requirements
Prepare samples as needed for sensory testing for product release.
Work with the production and QA team to address any issues, and document actions taken
Prepare samples for microbiological or analytical analysis at onsite or outside laboratories
Maintain and update procedures as may be needed to address new or changed evaluation techniques
Ensure and monitor good manufacturing practices and allergen program within the production facility
Evaluate factory weight control records, applying release criteria to comply with net contents regulations
Demonstrate high standard of safe food handling and personal hygiene
Assist in evaluating sanitation via visual examination, micro or allergen swab testing as required
Maintain clean and organized work area including lab equipment
Ensure compliance to Quality and Food Safety requirements within the scope of the position

Job Specifications:
Grade 12 education or equivalent
Knowledge of Food Safety, GMP, HACCP, and ISO Management System preferred
Exceptional mathematical, analytical and computer skills
Experience in developing, monitoring, and validating sanitation programs
Excellent organizational and planning skills. Demonstrated ability to learn
Above average problem-solving skills. Attention to detail is critical.
Ability to effectively communicate and a willingness to foster Inter-departmental relations.

f applying for microbiological technician duties, qualifications must meet Public Health Agency of Canada Biological training minimums, such as a University level course in Microbiological testing, or equivalent post-secondary program, as evaluated by the Quality Assurance Manager.

The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and indoor spaces that are restricted access due to microbiological risk.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required. PPE includes but is not limited to Safety shoes, hearing protection, freezer suit, safety glasses, gloves. Incumbent may also be required to wear hair and beard nets.
Sensory Attention
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Fine motor skills and a strict attention to detail and safety are required to ensure employee safety and the safety of others when managing chemicals or pathogenic microbiological material.
