Central City Brewers and Distillers is a craft brewery in the business of developing and selling international award-winning premium craft beer and high-quality distilled spirits brewed without compromise. Based in Surrey, British Columbia, CCBD was voted Canada\'s Best Brewery of the Year in 2010 and 2012. Its Red Racer brand has become a cult icon among craft beer enthusiasts throughout North America. Founded in 2003 as a brewpub and liquor store in downtown Surrey, CCBD celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2013 with the grand opening of a brand new, 68,000 sq. ft. brewery and distillery on Bridgeview Drive. In 2019 we opened a 40,000 sq. ft. storage facility with approximately 2000 barrels of whiskey aging in this facility. We are proud of being a local-Canadian Brewery that is currently expanding. In 2021 the company completed the installation of a new canning line designated for contract manufacturing. JOB SUMMARY The Quality Control Technician is responsible for all aspects of quality control within the brewery including microbiology, beer chemistry, and in-process packaged beer quality. This involves conducting routine analysis from incoming raw materials to finished packaged products, sample collection, laboratory testing, equipment calibration, and compiling and reporting results. The primary goal of the Quality Control Technician is to ensure the quality and consistency of our products by following appropriate Standard Operating Manuals. The Quality Control Technician will have tasks including but not limited to all aspects of raw materials handling, milling of grain, wort production, fermentation monitoring, yeast handling and pitching, clarification, transfers, finished beer monitoring, equipment CIP and general sanitation, parts and hose maintenance, and additional cellar and brewhouse duties as necessary. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Company\'s Vision, Mission, and Values
  • Perform necessary quality assurance testing (e.g. daily beer checks, measurements on packaging materials, beer chemistry, beer carbon dioxide, label and finished package quality, etc).
  • Perform necessary microbiological testing, recording, and reporting.
  • Identify problem areas and contribute to the problem-solving process working with brewing and maintenance.
  • Maintain the lab in a neat and orderly condition and ensure a sufficient supply of consumable materials.
  • Participate in ongoing product and process improvement efforts.
  • Run routine analyses on packaging materials and beer involved in being packaged.
  • Sample collection at various points during the process.
  • A willingness to learn and become part of a small team.
  • Be a team player focused on meeting production, quality, and safety goals.
  • Perform project work as needed.
  • Ability to work and communicate with all levels of brewery personnel.
  • Willing to work in a Production facility and collect samples throughout the process.
QUALIFICATIONS/DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
  • Bachelor\'s degree (science, food science, fermentation science, or brewing preferred)
  • Experience in QC/QA in the beverage industry is a plus; Production food laboratory experience in QC/QA or R&D is desired.
  • Sensory panel training and experience are a plus.
  • Packaging experience is a plus.
  • Familiar with laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Understanding the brewing process is a plus.
  • Excellent English is written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess the stamina for continuous standing and walking.
  • Flexible availability (ie day/night shifts weekdays/weekends etc)
  • Excellent time management, and ability to multi-task
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work in the QC Lab requires frequent bending and long periods of standing or walking.
  • This is a full-time position that requires working a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and being available to respond to incidents and emergencies.
  • Physical demands requiring frequent manual lifting/moving of materials weighing 25kg.
