New Toronto Food Co. is a fresh fruit and vegetable processor and packer located in Toronto, Ontario. We are looking for a Quality Assurance Technician. The Quality Assurance Technician ensures food safety procedures are in place at all times. Essential duties include daily check of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), cleaning and sanitation of food equipment, quality control of incoming raw materials and finished products, processing line check and ability to identify potential food safety hazards in the warehouse and production facility. The Quality Assurance Technician will be reporting directly to the Senior Quality Assurance Manager and must have knowledge of GMP, HACCP and/or FSSC 22000. Job Responsibilities \xc2\xb7 Responsible for food safety and quality through the enforcement and promotion of NTF\xe2\x80\x99s Food Safety Management System. \xc2\xb7 Monitor adherence to food safety related policies and procedures. Implement corrective action and coach staff as required, and report any deviations to Sr. QA Manager and/or Production Supervisor. \xc2\xb7 Assist and serve as backup for the Food Safety Team Leader (Sr. QA Manager) in maintaining and reviewing all aspects of the company\xe2\x80\x99s food safety management system (GMP, HACCP, Prerequisite programs, and training programs). \xc2\xb7 Perform pre-operational inspection of facility. Issue report and follow-up with Operations team as required. \xc2\xb7 Monitor production floor activities including verification of CCPs, in-process documentation, metal detection, chemical concentration (produce wash, sanitizer), and perform corrective actions when required. \xc2\xb7 Follow formulations/recipes and ensure protocols are followed for produce treatments. \xc2\xb7 Verify sanitation and cleaning processes, not limited to premise, equipment, and general housekeeping throughout shift. \xc2\xb7 Inspect incoming raw material for compliance with product specification and food safety criteria, and completion of inspection records. \xc2\xb7 Conduct routine quality line checks of finished product during assembly for compliance with customer specification (quality, label, weight, etc) and food safety criteria, and completion of inspection records. \xc2\xb7 Collect retainer sample from production run and participate in sensory and/or shelf life evaluations. \xc2\xb7 Involve in product sampling, and testing in the in-house lab for products under the Test & Hold Procedure. \xc2\xb7 Work in a safe manner and ensure all production staff adhere to safety standards, policies, and procedures, and enforce through counselling, guidance, and corrective action. \xc2\xb7 Participate in and contribute to Department and Company meetings, and internal, customer, and third party audits. \xc2\xb7 Assist in environmental swabbing for Listeria, E. coli, and ATP. \xc2\xb7 Assist new product launches, plant trials, shelf life studies, and audits. \xc2\xb7 Lifting cases of produce (up to 50 lbs.) off of pallets for inspection purposes. Job Requirements \xc2\xb7 \xef\xbb\xbfUniversity degree or College Diploma in Quality Assurance or in a related field. \xc2\xb7 Previous experience in a food-processing environment, minimum 2 yrs. of experience. \xc2\xb7 Previous experience in a laboratory environment an asset. \xc2\xb7 Must be able to work in cold temperature environment from 2\xc2\xb0C for an extended period of time. \xc2\xb7 Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and/or FSSC 22000, BRC, or SQF. \xc2\xb7 Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. \xc2\xb7 Excellent written, verbal and listening skills. \xc2\xb7 Exceptional time management skills. \xc2\xb7 Self-motivated. \xc2\xb7 Strong work ethic. \xc2\xb7 Must be available to work Tuesday through Saturday with 6:30am start time and/or 10am start time rotating shifts. \xc2\xb7 Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
