We are looking for a QA Engineer to join our Data Engineering team to contribute to a blended role of test automation, technical manual testing, and Java Development. You will be joining the ONX Data Squad and working on our data pipeline.
What you will be doing?
Owning the QA process to maintain the quality of our data and data collection. You will ensure the quality and reliability of our Java and SQL applications by creating and executing test plans, developing test cases, and collaborating with developers to identify and resolve defects. You will be working in a fast-paced environment, within a cross-functional team of Engineers, Data Scientists, and Product Managers. This role will report to the ONX Data Team Lead. We expect our QA Engineers to:

  • Be an advocate for the quality of the product end-to-end
  • Takes ownership of testing activities in the sprint/project
  • Uses tools (manual / automation) to improve test coverage and reduce test times
  • Write effective bug reports and test reports with all the required information and root cause analysis where possible
  • Ensure delivered software and data are fit for purpose in terms of quality, reliability, scalability, and performance
  • Ensure acceptance criteria are fit for purpose, looking for edge cases and missed scenarios, while also being a champion for non-functional requirements.
  • Ensure the team fully understands the quality processes such as defect management, the definition of done, and test types
  • Develop and extend our automation test packs in order to reduce manual testing
  • Work with Engineers and troubleshoot/triage issues found during testing and in production
  • Build strong working relationships across the teams, develop a solid understanding of our products, data flow & architecture
  • Ensure privacy is at the forefront of what we do, be it GDPR, CCPA, or any other global standard
  • Keep yourself current and ensure best practices and standards are followed
  • Be detail-oriented and understand the importance of the credibility of our metrics
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with an ability to shift priorities and focus on changing requirements and market demands
  • Cross-collaborate with the wider team to drive and maintain high standards of software quality
  • Comfortable and effective at working in a remote capacity, collaborating with team members across different locations through digital channels

What do we need from you?
As a QA Engineer, we would expect you to have previous experience in quality assurance processes and methodologies.
  • Experience being part of a cross-functional team, using agile methodologies.
  • Experience in identifying gaps in test coverage and use appropriate tooling to improve the gaps
  • Experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit, TestNG, and Selenium
  • Experience with SQL query languages and database management systems
  • Solid understanding of best practices such as TDD, BDD, CI/CD and the Practical Test Pyramid
  • Experience with technical testing, using tools such as Dev Tools, Proxies, Postman/SoapUI
  • Inquisitive by nature, you have a desire to get stuck-in with testing at all stages of your product\'s lifecycle, from investigating and discussing initial ideas, right through to discussing pragmatic and scalable automated regression checking solutions.
  • Experience with maintaining and extending a framework such as Java, JavaScript or Python and BDD style
  • Experience of working with various QA tools inclusive of defect tracking systems, Test management tools and Cloud based platforms and tools
  • Basic knowledge of SQL is essential
  • Telecommunications knowledge (desirable)
