Position Overview:
Johnstone Brothers Equipment Corp. and Group of Companies is seeking a Purchasing Manager to take ownership of our procurement function and lead the development of a more strategic, flexible, and analytics-driven approach to purchasing and inventory management.
This role is central to managing supplier relationships, overseeing inventory planning, and aligning purchasing efforts with sales, service, and warehouse operations. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) or related industrial procurement, and will be comfortable balancing cost, delivery timelines, and customer service expectations -- especially when urgent needs arise.
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement & Vendor Management
Lead the sourcing and procurement of materials, parts, and supplies for use across rentals, service, and resale.
Manage vendor relationships and evaluate performance based on pricing, delivery, quality, and service responsiveness.
Negotiate favorable terms and pricing to support cost targets and service levels.
Handle special orders, product substitutions, and backorders in close coordination with internal teams.
Inventory Management & Forecasting
Monitor usage trends to forecast purchasing needs and maintain appropriate stock levels.
Minimize overstock and obsolescence while supporting availability for customer and shop needs.
Collaborate with warehouse and service teams to align purchasing with real-time operational demand.
Participate in cycle counts, stock accuracy efforts, and reconciliation processes.
Analytics, Cost Control & Agility
Use purchasing analytics to inform buying decisions and identify savings opportunities.
Track and report on key metrics (inventory turnover, lead times, fill rates, etc.).
Support budgeting and planning with timely and accurate purchasing data.
Prioritize emergency orders and short-lead requests to maintain customer service standards -- flexibility is key.
Department Development & Collaboration
Support the design of scalable procurement systems and process documentation.
Work cross-functionally with Parts Sales, Rentals, Service, and Warehouse to ensure purchasing is aligned with business needs.
Contribute to sourcing initiatives for custom-built or proprietary parts when applicable.
Qualifications:
5+ years in purchasing or procurement, preferably in MRO, industrial, or distribution environments.
Proven experience balancing cost, delivery urgency, and vendor performance.
ERP experience required (NetSuite preferred, but not required).
Strong analytical and reporting skills.
Clear communicator with strong vendor management and negotiation ability.
Flexible mindset -- able to shift priorities and handle urgent or unplanned purchasing needs.
Track record of improving or building procurement processes is a strong asset.

Pay: $85,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
