Purchasing Leader

The Purchasing Leader will be responsible for managing vendor relationships, optimizing inventory and sourcing strategies, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals and budgets. Who We're Looking For
We are seeking a conscientious, analytical, and results-driven leader who values accuracy, consistency, and strategic thinking. Reporting to the Supply Chain Leader, the Purchasing Leader will guide a team of buyers and logistics professionals, ensuring that purchasing activities support production efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working independently, takes initiative, and is energized by solving complex supply chain challenges. They will be comfortable making authoritative decisions within defined guidelines and will foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coach a team of Buyers and Logistics Professionals to meet performance goals and KPIs.
Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans and vendor negotiations to optimize cost, quality and delivery.
Manage procurement of glass and related materials, ensuring alignment with production schedules and budget targets.
Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
Ensure compliance with Canadian procurement regulations, company policies, and ethical sourcing standards.
Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve supply chain issues and improve purchasing processes.
Utilize ERP and vendor management systems to manage orders, invoices, and inventory.
Identify and mitigate risks to ensure successful project delivery.
Champion continuous improvement initiatives using Lean principles (e.g., Kanban, Kaizen).
Qualifications
5 to 7 years of experience as a Purchasing Manager or Senior Buyer in a manufacturing environment.
Experience in the glass industry experience is an asset).
Minimum 2 years of experience leading or managing a team.
Bachelor's Degree
Professional designations such as CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional), CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management), or SCMP (Supply Chain Management Professional) are preferred.
Working knowledge of Canadian and U.S. customs regulations and cross-border shipping processes.
Skills & Competencies
Deep understanding of supply chain and procurement strategies.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
Advanced Excel Skills (Formulas, Pivot Tables, Macros).
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles.
Working Conditions
The Purchasing Leader will primarily work in a comfortable office environment with occasional exposure to dust, noise, and other mild environmental factors. The role involves moderate mental demands due to managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines. While the majority of responsibilities are office-based, the Purchasing Leader must be comfortable entering and working within the production floor as needed. The manufacturing area is a safety-sensitive environment that includes mobile equipment and overhead cranes, requiring awareness of safety protocols and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when on the floor.
