Role Description:



Our chemistry laboratories work together with the paper testing, microscopy, and pulping pilot plant labs, running over 200 analytical procedures ranging from classical wet chemistry to instrument analysis by ICP-OES, HPLC, GC, FTIR, ash fusion, and more.

For the Technologist this is hands-on analytical work. Typically, you will take samples as received, prepare them for analysis, analyze them, and report the results. Your performance is rated based on testing, productivity, accuracy/quality, and flexibility, as well as your positive contribution to team culture and success.

You're already well-experienced in laboratory delivery. We'll invest in your domain-specific development so that you can build and broaden your technical knowledge and skills, to become an expert in the specialized handling and testing techniques for pulp, paper, biofuels, and related process samples.

The role reports to the Chemistry Lab Supervisor.

General Responsibilities:



Adhere to safe work procedures Coordinate daily work plan with fellow team members Follow written lab testing procedures efficiently and attentively Prepare samples and reagents, as required for daily work Follow quality protocols and procedures to ensure results meet quality specifications Help to identify and troubleshoot method and workflow issues when they arise Engage in continuous improvement of methods and workflow processes

You're passionate about the work, experienced and capable on the bench, and a proven performer in the commercial lab environment. Personal drive and a strong sense of accountability. You can take ownership, and lead yourself and others. You have an intuitive sense of where the performance bar needs to be. An active contributor and team player. You want to build and share your knowledge and support new initiatives. You'll assist where you can and won't hesitate to ask for help. A strong grasp of fundamental scientific/ chemistry principles. Completed post-secondary education in a Chemistry discipline (university, tech institute, etc.). Computers aren't a barrier. Highly proficient in MS Excel and Word, reasonably knowledgeable in a LIMS, and adaptable to lab equipment software. Excellent spoken and written communication skills, with the ability to engage people in a positive manner. Bonus: demonstrated high comfort with analytical devices and a knack for troubleshooting.

Compensation:



Base Salary: $50-$54k subject to experience and competencies Annual Bonus: You will be eligible to participate in the company's annual bonus program. Typically, 5-10% of base salary depending on company and personal performance. Medical and dental benefits are available after a probationary period The position is full-time on-site at our Annacis Island, Delta BC facility
