The Public Works Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, development, and maintenance of band infrastructure and services. This includes managing projects related to roads, bridges, water supply, waste management, and other community assets. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, project management skills, and a commitment to community engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the planning, development, and implementation of public works projects for Coldwater Indian Band (CWIB), including roads, bridges, and community buildings, ensuring alignment with community needs and cultural considerations,
Develop and manage budgets for various CWIB projects, ensuring efficient use of resources, securing funding, and monitoring expenditures,
Supervise and coordinate the work of public works staff and contractors for CWIB, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations,
Communicate with CWIB community members to gather input, address concerns, and ensure projects reflect the needs and values of the band,
Ensure all public works projects for CWIB comply with regulations, including environmental standards and safety protocols,
Plan and implement maintenance schedules for all of CWIB's infrastructure, ensuring facilities are safe, functional, and well-kept,
Address and resolve any issues that arise during project execution or maintenance for CWIB, employing analytical skills to find effective solutions,
Coordinate with other departments, governmental agencies, and local organizations to ensure cohesive project execution and resource sharing for CWIB,
Maintain accurate records of project progress, expenditures, and compliance for CWIB projects, and prepare reports for band leadership and stakeholders,
Integrate Indigenous values and perspectives into CWIB public works projects to honor traditions and promote community identity, and
Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Band Administrator.

Experience, Education and Requirements
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Public Administration, or a related field,
Minimum of 3 years of experience in public works management or a related area,
Certification in systems for water and wastewater systems is preffered;
Strong knowledge of local, provincial, and federal regulations affecting public works projects,
Valid BC Driver's License of Class 5 or higher with own transportation,
Familiar with Indigenous public works systems and knowledge of funding processes administered by Indigenous Service Canada,
Knowledge of capital asset management, including planning, acquisition, maintenance, and lifecycle management of infrastructure and facilities, and
Must be able to pass a criminal record check.
