JOB SUMMARY



The mandate of the Paramedic Service is to deliver sophisticated medical treatment to all residents and visitors of Ottawa for life-threatening medical emergencies including heart attacks, strokes, and respiratory and traumatic injuries.
You are responsible for the delivery of the Ottawa Paramedic Service accredited training programs (including Standard First Aid and/or Emergency First Aid and/or CPR and/or Oxygen Therapy and/or AED courses and/or Emergency First Responder courses).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



Completion of Grade 12
Minimum of 18 months of experience in delivering training for first aid/CPR or instructing in a related field

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES


Current First Aid, CPR and AED Instructor certificate
Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
Current CPR level C - Basic Life Support/Rescuer certificate
Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated

KNOWLEDGE


Familiarity with first aid training materials, resources, and applicable technology. This includes adult learning styles, training models, and techniques Strong foundation of human anatomy and physiology for explaining injuries, illnesses, and the effects of first aid interventions. Emergency Response procedures Thorough knowledge of first aid procedures, including wound care, bandaging, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), AED (Automated External Defibrillator) usage, and other life-threatening medical conditions. Knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations and applicable laws pertaining to first aid to ensure that the information delivered in trainings align with current standards and guidelines.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


Able to work effectively with diverse groups of participants and addressing questions and concerns effectively Ability to transport equipment to offsite locations across Ottawa, set-up necessary training equipment (such as manikins, audio/visual equipment, manuals, etc), and return all equipment to training centre after the course Ability to handle the stress of an emergency situation Maintains acceptable appearance at all times in regards to both OPS uniform policy and personal hygiene Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs

Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
