Reporting to the Head of Emergency Analytics, the Public Safety Business and Data Analyst is a key member of the team responsible for providing high-level business intelligence, geospatial analysis, and data services for Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. In this role, you will be at the heart of our operations, transforming complex data from various public safety systems into critical insights that drive sound strategic and operational decisions. Your work will directly influence everything from resource deployment to community risk assessment, ensuring EFRS operates efficiently and effectively. This position is crucial for supporting our goals for emergency response and preparedness.
What will you do?
Lead and participate in complex data and geospatial analysis to provide actionable insights for EFRS leadership, operational improvements and strategic planning
Design, develop, and maintain informative, interactive dashboards and data visualizations using tools like Tableau, PowerBI, and ESRI ArcGIS
Serve as the database manager for EFRS's Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, ensuring all dispatch configurations are functional and optimized
Manage the full data lifecycle for core system improvements, leading or participating in key projects from end to end while ensuring strong data governance, documentation, and quality
Act as a subject matter expert for data reporting, providing guidance, training, and support to collegues and other internal collaborators
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, like the Edmonton Police Service and Alberta Health Services, to acquire data and continuously improve reporting capabilities
Prepare and deliver compelling reports and presentations to senior leadership and other interested parties
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
:A post-secondary degree or diploma in Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems, or a related field
Experience working in a public safety field
A minimum of four (4) years of experience as a data, business intelligence, or GIS analyst
Recent and extensive experience (within the last 5 years) using reporting tools such as Tableau and PowerBI, as well as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and ESRI ArcGIS (desktop and online) in an enterprise environment
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with database queries, data warehouse design, dimensional modeling, data integration, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes
Asset:
Project Management or Business Analysis certification
Master's Degree in Science, Business, or related field

You have strong hands-on experience, in Public Safety, with business intelligence and GIS solutions and can translate technical data for non-technical audiences

You excel at building and maintaining positive working relationships with internal teams and external partners to achieve shared goals

Conditions of Employment:
Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
