The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), a Program of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), provides provincial and national leadership in public health through health promotion, surveillance, disease detection, and prevention.
Population and Public Health at the BCCDC is a team of clinical and public health experts who work with partners across the province, including the Ministry of Health, the regional health authorities, and non-government organizations to facilitate work on health promotion and prevention of non-communicable diseases and injuries. The team also works to reduce health inequities by informing action on the determinants of health. Areas of focus include healthy eating and food security, healthy communities, healthy built environments, injury prevention, and health promotion in schools.
The BC Centre for Disease Control in Vancouver, BC, is currently seeking to hire a Public Health Physician for the Population and Public Health (PPH) team, with a focus on advancing public health practice and policy in health promotion, prevention of non-communicable diseases and injuries, and upstream action on the determinants of health.
Reporting to the Medical Director, Population and Public Health, this position has responsibility and accountability for providing medical expertise and leadership for public health policies, programs, and practice, providing expert consultation services, and strengthening provincial public health networks related to PPH program objectives.
The Public Health Physician engages, partners, and collaborates with Indigenous communities, Regional Health Authorities, First Nations Authority, Metis Nation BC, Office of the Provincial Health Officer, Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders to address issues related to PPH program objectives.
The Public Health Physician must be able to provide senior scientific and medical oversight to division staff who support a wide variety of programs and initiatives related to health promotion, prevention of non-communicable diseases and injuries, and upstream action on the determinants of health.
In addition, the Physician provides epidemiologic expertise and, in collaboration with PPH staff, undertakes program evaluation and relevant research activities to address gaps in knowledge related to PPH program objectives.
