Job Description

The department of City Operations is seeking a Public Engagement Advisor to provide engagement support to a diverse portfolio of projects and programs related to greening initiatives, parking programs, traffic safety, road maintenance and others. We are looking for a team member who is curious about finding collaborative solutions to complex situations and committed to inclusive, creative and effective engagement with Edmontonians to support City decision making.Using your breadth of knowledge about best practices in public engagement and relationship building, you will support portfolios and project teams in planning, implementing and evaluating public engagement processes. You will succeed in this role if you approach challenges with a curious, tenacious, leadership and service-minded spirit.What will you do?

  • Work with business areas to identify and understand objectives, issues and engagement needs for the project
  • Create detailed public engagement plans with strategies, tactics, resource requirements and timelines for public engagement
  • Lead the design, implementation and facilitation of creative digital and in-person public engagement activities
  • Gather, analyze, synthesize and share public engagement feedback including developing What We Heard reports
  • Work with project teams, community members, interest holders and partners to build meaningful connections and ongoing relationships
  • Continually monitor and evaluate public engagement activities, help implement best and innovative practices and test new engagement techniques
  • Identify and understand complex issues and how they may impact public engagement activities and experience
  • Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Planning, Communications or Public Relations, or a related field
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience (or equivalent) in the design and delivery of public engagement processes and strategy, including understanding of the theory, best practices and application of public engagement, and data analysis and reporting
Assets:
  • Completion of International Association of Public Participation training (or other related public engagement training)
  • Experience working in public service and/or a large, complex organization
Skills required for success:
  • Commitment to work respectfully and collaboratively with others and to take initiative in a complex, high-volume environment
  • Experience in facilitating meetings and workshops with a demonstrated ability to leverage strong relational and project management skills to work with internal and external groups
  • Experience in inclusive approaches to engagement (e.g. Gender Based Analysis Plus)
  • Experience working with and/or managing and evaluating consultant teams
  • Proficient in using and learning various software programs, including Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Docs is required
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
