Job Description

Waypoints is a registered, non-profit charity that has been operating in Fort McMurray since 1982. Waypoints offers facilities, programs and services for people that have experienced, or are experiencing domestic violence and/or abuse, or sexual assault and/or abuse. Waypoint also provides the community with public awareness events, initiatives, and educational programs to increase the prevention of violence and abuse in the Wood Buffalo Region. Waypoints operates Unity House, an Emergency Women and Children's Shelter, the Opportunities for Change Centre, The Sexual Assault and Abuse Healing Centre, the CARE Centre, which houses our Child and Youth Advocacy Centre and our Outreach program, and The Compass, home of our Second Stage Shelter for women and children in need of transitional housing, as well as affordable housing.

Position Summary:



We are currently seeking two(2) full-time Public Awareness and Training Facilitator. Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the position promotes prevention of domestic violence and human trafficking through provision of public education and awareness, and provides crisis intervention, support, and advocacy to individuals who have experienced abuse and trauma and their loved ones.

Duties and Responsibilities:



Core duties

Develop and facilitate educational workshops, presentations, webinars and materials related to human trafficking awareness and prevention. Develop and facilitate educational workshops, presentations, webinars and materials related to domestic violence. Research and implement best practices for program delivery for children, youth, and adults. Build and maintain partnerships with other agencies and institutions for collaborative service delivery. Participate in the public awareness campaigns regarding human trafficking, domestic and sexual violence. Provide back-up coverage of Emergency Shelter Positions (Crisis Intervention Worker, Child Development Worker, Kitchen, Next Steps). Attend community meetings to inform attendees of Waypoints services and provide updates to the team. Complete and submit (weekly/monthly/quarterly) statistical and reporting information to Manager. Attend and participate in team meetings and Waypoints' staff meetings. Participate in public awareness / advocacy events for Waypoints. Other duties as assigned by the Manager / Executive Director.
Administrative duties

Preparing reports as indicated by manager for the program (funding reports, quarterly, monthly report) for review by program manager. Identifying trends in service delivery and in the community/province by attending community/provincial meetings and committees, reviewing data and reporting to Program Manager. Create media posts and materials for review for public distribution. Represent the program at community events, community, and provincial meetings. Coordinate Outreach events with the Community Awareness and Special Events Coordinator (including but not limited to Family Violence Prevention Month, Sexual Violence Awareness Month and Child Abuse Awareness Month). Complete and maintain data entry, inventory check lists, distribution lists and other forms/documents for program. Other Duties as assigned.

Qualifications:



Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Human Services or Social Sciences. Minimum of one year experience providing public education, facilitation, and presentations in a social service setting. Minimum of one year education/experience with data collection and analysis, reporting, creation of educational materials, distribution and tracking of supplies and materials. Experience working with diverse populations an asset, including 2SLGBTQ+ and multicultural communities. Deep awareness of decolonization, colonialism, and issues affecting Indigenous communities and relations. Comprehensive knowledge of Indigenous values, perspective and histories. Excellent oral communication and presentation skills. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Understanding of trauma and trauma-informed practice. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality guidelines of all records, materials, and communications.

Work Conditions:



37.5-hour work week with the ability to flex hours of work to accommodate community and agency needs. May require use of a personal vehicle for work purposes. Valid Class 5 Drivers license and a clean Drivers abstract. RCMP Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable and Intervention Record Check. Current Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Emergency First Aid and AED Certification. Travel to rural communities, including operating Waypoints vehicle and flying on a 9 seat plane.

Compensation:



$34.12 per hour ($27.72 plus an additional $6.40 per hour Cost of Living Allowance to a maximum of $480 bi-weekly). Annual salary is $66,534.
