Job Description


The Bottle Depot Production Worker strives to meet customer and workflow demands efficiently on daily basis. In addition, the Production Worker provides expertise related to products within the department and externally to customers Key Responsibilities: Count and perform basic sorting of products

  • Use touch screens to record the quantity and types of products purchased.
  • Maintain accuracy and speed in counting customer products.
  • Maintain knowledge of products that are acceptable or unacceptable in the refund system.
  • Assist customers in and out of the depot.
  • Provide carts for customers.
  • Work on bottle drives when customers are not present unless assigned.
  • Maintain a friendly, positive demeanour at all times.
  • Provide accurate information to customer queries.
Sort containers into appropriate categories
  • Perform detailed sorting of containers that have been purchased.
  • Ensures accurate quantities of containers are placed in appropriate bins.
  • Use a roller to transport counted bins to their assigned bag or to be compacted through MMF.
  • Ensures each bin is marked on the correct tally sheet to provide a running total of containers present in each bag.
Use Multi-Material Flattener to compact specific containers
  • Pour product into MMF hopper according to depot specifications.
  • Maintain knowledge of types of products to be compacted and the processes for each material stream.
  • Ensures material streams are kept separate to avoid contamination in bags.
Warehouse products that have been processed
  • Place a correct tag on each bag that has been fully processed.
  • Print and place an electronic label corresponding to each bag or pallet of processed material that assigns the bag or pallet to a specific load in the warehouse.
  • Stack bags and pallets in a safe manner, ensuring stacks are not top-heavy.
  • Place bags and pallets in the warehouse according to depot specifications and load placement procedures.
Unload and load transport trailers
  • Unload supplies from trailers using a forklift to remove pallets.
\xc2\xb7 Load trucks according to Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation and Brewers. \xc2\xb7 Loading and unloading trailers for bottle drives are required. \xc2\xb7 Distributors Ltd. requirements. \xc2\xb7 Maintain positive working relationships with truck drivers. \xc2\xb7 Complete electronic and manual R-bill for each load, ensuring accuracy of totals. \xc2\xb7 Operates till accurately and safely. \xc2\xb7 Scan receipts and count cash to ensure the customer receives correct cash amounts. \xc2\xb7 Understand the difference between cash transactions and non-cash transactions. \xc2\xb7 Provide good customer relations. Additional Expectations:
  • Buy refundable beverage containers from customers.
  • Work cooperatively with team members to achieve department and agency goals for production.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Maintain a positive, cooperative and pleasant demeanour with customers and team members. Empower team members through positive feedback and utilize the strengths and expertise of others.
  • Maintain high ethical and professional standards at all times.
  • Performs daily opening and closing routines.
  • Prior to opening, ensure customer carts are placed outside, and that all required set-up has been completed.
  • At the end of the day, ensure all garbage has been emptied into the outside dumpster, and that all inside cleaning duties have been completed.
  • Attend scheduled staff development training as required.
  • Perform any additional responsibilities as requested by Bottle Depot Manager, Lead Hand.
Safety and Well-Being
  • Read, understand and comply with Cosmos Group of Companies\xe2\x80\x99 Health and Safety policies and safe work procedures/practices.
  • Ensures safety procedures are adhered to at all times according to department and agency policies.
  • Ensures security at all times.
  • Utilize security methods for handling cash and operating till.
  • Cautious and observant when driving forklift, company vehicles and using a pallet jack.
  • Thoroughly secure the building before closure and report any concerns to the manager immediately.
  • Assists in maintaining bottle depot cleanliness.
  • Be aware of the load weights and instability of pallets prior to and during movement.
  • Separating garbage and cardboard.
  • Ensures cardboard is baled daily.
  • Reports any departmental safety concerns to Bottle Depot Manager immediately to address and correct.
  • Reports personal injury immediately and treat accordingly for personal hygiene and safety precautions. Workers\' reports of injury claims must be processed within the government-stipulated time frame.
  • Wears the appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing for your job duties.
  • Reports any unsafe, unhealthy condition to your manager immediately.
  • Immediately report any injury, equipment damage or near misses to your immediate supervisor and complete the required documentation.
  • Takes every reasonable precaution to protect the safety of co-workers, clients and self.
  • Actively and positively participate in the Cosmos Group of Companies\xe2\x80\x99 Health and Safety Program
  • Demonstrates positive approved safety practices and procedures and set a good example for fellow employees
  • Makes safety suggestions to your supervisor or Health and Safety Committee.

  • Attend Health and Safety training as required.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
  • Completion of Grade 12 or High School Diploma
  • 6 months related experience in customer service and/or production work
  • Experience operating light industrial equipment (ie: forklift, floor jack).
  • Ability to work well in environments where varying levels of speed increases are important to maintain production requirements.
  • Ability to keep accurate count while dealing with possible interruptions.

  • Report any case of absenteeism, the need to leave early for appointments or other concerns as soon as possible to the Manager and/or Team Lead.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
Working Conditions: \xc2\xb7 Pulling, lifting, bending, standing for an extended period of time (up to 8 hours). \xc2\xb7 Repetitive motion. \xc2\xb7 Dirty and possibly unsanitary conditions. \xc2\xb7 Variance in internal and external temperatures. \xc2\xb7 Exposure to sensory unpleasantness (noise, strong/unpleasant odours). \xc2\xb7 Exposure to rodents and insects (bees, wasps, mice). \xc2\xb7 Customer complaints and occasional threats of abusive situations.
