Student Wellness is a key unit within Student Services that holds responsibilities for promoting and supporting the health and well-being of all students at UVic. Student Wellness places a highly integrated and dynamic model of clinical counselling, clinical health and Multifaith which focuses on spiritual holistic care of the UVic student experience. The Student Wellness portfolio includes a collaborative, inter-professional model that supports students' academic goals and personal development by fostering a student's well-being and skill development as it relates to personal wellness. The highly skilled and committed team of clinical and administrative professionals offers a comprehensive wellness model that closely aligns with the young adult population in a higher-education environment and creates a learning environment that supports all students' capacity to engage, develop, and thrive throughout their post-secondary experiences at UVic.


The salary range for this position is:




Recruitment range: $95,649- $105,476

starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

Performance range: $124,447

salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases. Job Summary
The clinical counselling team, as part of Student Wellness, is committed to fostering student success, engagement, and well-being through direct clinical services, training and mentorship, consultative services, crisis and emergency response, and programming and program evaluation. The SW fosters service and program innovation and leads a number of strategic relationships with both internal university and external community stakeholders in order to deliver on departmental, divisional, and institutional planning initiatives and goals.


As a clinical practitioner of the counselling team, this psychologist position plays a key role in serving the above-identified student population through engaging in multi-faceted duties and responsibilities. These include: offering culturally appropriate clinical services to students and trainees, consulting with staff and faculty around mental health and behavioural critical incident management consideration, collaborating with key campus partners to develop and implement mental health and wellness promotion programs, leading across the university mental health training and educational initiatives, and sharing expertise on policy and guideline development on best practices for diverse students. This registered psychologist role is integral to various training programs within Student Wellness specifically to the psychology internship program accredited by Canadian Psychological Association.


Job Requirements
A completed Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or a related mental health field, with degree received from academic programs and internship training offered by those being accredited by Canadian Psychological Association or its equivalent accreditation bodies; currently registered as a Registered Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia in a good standing, or registration-eligible as a psychologist in British Columbia and able to be registered within one year of hiring date.


A minimum of three years of post-degree clinical/ professional employment experiences providing individual and group counselling to young adults having major mental illness; recent university or college counselling experiences at university and/or college counselling centre; past experiences of offering individual clinical supervision and skill training at an accredited training site such as Canadian Psychological Association or its equivalent accreditation bodies.


Demonstrated ability and commitment to reflective practice, receiving and integrating feedback and opportunities for engagement with critical self-reflexivity and cultural humility. Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory and experience in program development and evaluation, and consultation and outreach. Appropriate coursework and training in assessment and measurement, adolescent and adult development, diagnoses and treatment of mental illness, and in motivation, personality, and learning.


Possession of personal qualities that facilitate teamwork and contribute to effective working relationship with a wide range of diverse students, faculty, staff, and various professional disciplines.


Requirements include knowledge of:


Demonstrated commitment to valuing the principles of truth, reconciliation and respect, equity diversity and inclusion, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. Cultural awareness of the Indigenous peoples of British Columbia and familiarity with the challenges that Indigenous students face in the public post-secondary education system. An understanding of the issues that Indigenous students face when interfacing with western healthcare systems and the Indigenous ways of health and wellness. Health and wellness challenges that can impact student success and access to care and support for students with diverse backgrounds who may face multiple and complex barriers including, but not limited to, those who identify as indigenous (including two-spirit), international, racialized, transgender, gender-non-binary/non-conforming, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, first generation, and/or persons with a disability.

Ability to be creative, resourceful, flexible, and able to take initiative, and display a professional, tactful and enthusiastic demeanor in representing Student Wellness; Ability to engage in interpersonal relations with students and team members, and to effectively consult with various campus partners including critical incident management; Ability to provide mentorship, consultation, and sharing knowledge within the clinical counselling team; Liaise well with UVic campus partners and greater Victoria community partners; Ability to relate well with the young adult population to effectively assess and provide quality care; Ability to effectively make decisions, embrace change and engage in service improvements; Effective skills in presentation and group facilitation; Ability to provide clinical training and supervision to various student learners at Student Wellness.
