Job Summary
The West End Mental Health and Addictions Team provides community based Mental Health and addictions services via individual, family and group therapy to persons with mental health and addictions issues and mental illness. These include, but are not limited to, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, bi-polar disorders, personality disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Psychiatric Nurse II is an integral part of a multidisciplinary team who provides individual and group therapy using a range of theoretical approaches and specialized interventions to persons with complex Mental Health needs. This position serves as a primary therapist who will rely on their advanced clinical knowledge and expertise in the judgment of making important decisions. A major function is to assist clients to work toward, or return to a healthy productive lifestyle through skill development and enhancement, linkages to community services and appropriate management of medical issues. Working with a high degree of autonomy in a, complex, decision making capacity, the Psychiatric Nurse II works within the scope of established policies and procedures. The Psychiatric Nurse II screens and assesses client referrals and develops and implements a treatment plan, in conjunction with the client, based on ongoing assessment. They use a proactive approach in identifying and addressing client issues, stressors and vulnerabilities. They also act as a resource for the interdisciplinary team in areas requiring nursing expertise and a nursing perspective, and actively participates in continuous quality improvements to the program. The successful candidate may be required to complete occasional shifts at DoorWays utilizing single session therapy as well as delivering TAO to those who avail of this modality.

Regularly moves or lifts between 5 - 10 lbs, occasionally moves or lifts up to 25 lbs and occasionally is required to push patients in wheelchairs over 50 lbs.
Regularly walks, stands or sits to provide care or to observe patients.
Regularly uses fine finger/precision work requiring steadiness and accurate movement/control.
Visual concentration is required to observe a patient\'s behavior and body language.
Occasionally, required to drive to patients homes for visits or to accompany them to community agencies or resources.

Job Qualifications
Graduation from an approved/recognized post-secondary nursing education program with a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing OR a diploma in Nursing supplemented by a Post-Basic course or CNA Certification in Psychiatric Nursing is required.
Master\'s degree is an asset.
Previous counselling experience would be an asset
Practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL).
Active certification in BCLS.
Five (5) years\' experience within the last seven (7) years in mental health nursing.
Knowledge of specific psychiatric approaches i.e. supportive counselling; skills teaching; crisis intervention.
Demonstrated communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership abilities and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated progressive leadership skills is required.
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver\'s License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
