Your Opportunity:Under the RGH Mental Health (MH) leadership team, the successful applicant is assertive and proactive with a strong foundation in MH, can respectfully interact in a range of challenging circumstances, while exceling in a fast-paced, team environment, with excellent observation, assessment, prioritization, milieu management, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Psychiatric Aide works within a team providing care for individuals with Intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), severe and persistent mental illness, and co-occurring disorders. Under supervision of the nurse or allied health staff, you will collaborate with the patient, family, guardian and other programs/agencies to provide patient and family centered, trauma informed, culturally appropriate care. While maintaining confidentiality, you will provide cognitive, social, emotional and psychological support to patients, and de-escalation strategies. You will observe and report relevant information to nursing staff and assist in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, families, visitors and staff. You will support development of individual treatment plans, assisting patients in meeting identified goals and support patients with activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, vital signs, behavior mapping, participating in recreation, leisure and therapy group/individual activities, and supporting patients attending appointments as well as any challenging behaviors. Knowledge and adherence to Recovery Alberta policies, procedures, values, and code of conduct is required, as well as the Mental Health Act, Health Information, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy. It is expected the successful candidate is aware of unit specific practices and expectations outlined by Recovery Alberta and management.Description:As a Psychiatric Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients\' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs as well as assist with organized activities or programs. In this position, you will observe and report on a patient\xc2\xbfs mood, health, well-being, maintain effective communication with patients and health professionals, assist with the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors as well as assist in the general support of the work area.

Required Qualifications:Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered. Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 1 year of working in Addictions and Mental health (acute or community). Understanding of mental health disorders. Understanding and application of trauma informed care. Understanding and application of patient and family centered care. Effective and strong communication skills. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team. Ability to maintain a respectful and professional relationship with team members, patients, family and all stakeholders. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024.
