Your Opportunity:

We are looking for a Protective Services Officer II that is familiar with Canadian Law as well as current legislation relating to fire, security and law enforcement. Someone that understands the application of security technology in assessing situations and has strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and administrative skills. Self-defense training including restraint and handcuffing techniques are an asset as well. Computer application skills in a Microsoft Window/Office environment and good documentation and report writing skills is an asset as well. Effective handling of stress, conflict/negotiation skills is needed. Must be physically fit to respond to fire and/or security related emergencies with AHS. Physical exertion required with lifting, pushing, pulling, restraining and standing for long periods of time. Ability to provide a positive and friendly approach that will enable you to deal with challenging situations with empathy and sincerity. Ability to work effectively independently, and within a team, effectively managing his or her time and setting priorities when faced with multiple tasks and deadlines over a period of time. Open to occasion travel and possible overnight stay based on out of zone urgent response requirements. Ability to follow and adhere to Alberta Health Services policies, procedures, goals and objectives including privacy and confidentiality concerns. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver\'s Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment. Preference will be given to candidates with two years post-secondary education in a law enforcement or criminal justice discipline Two years post-secondary education in Security, Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice preferred Two years related security/law enforcement experience preferred WHMIS training preferred Certificate in CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Pressure Point Control Tactic an asset. Current First Aid and CPR Level C - AED certification
