Your Opportunity:
The Protective Services team is seeking a dedicated, ambitious and collaborative Protective Services Officer, within the Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH). The Alberta Children's Hospital boasts 141 inpatient beds within four medical units and a children's mental health unit. In addition, we have the Rotary Flames House which provides palliative care and community-based hospice services for children with life-limiting illnesses. As a Protective Services team member, you will nurture positive relationships with all the patients, families, staff, and the community. As a successful candidate, you must be acutely aware of the empathy required while at the same time continuing to maintain your authority and ensure the safety of everyone. You will have the ability to solve diverse and sensitive problems while collaboratively and proactively coming up with alternate solutions. Description:
As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Alberta Class 5 operator's license, or a provincial equivalent. Current Emergency First Aid and CPR.

Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum two years of related work experience OR a related degree or diploma in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology. Other related education may be considered. Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services. Community involvement or volunteering (unpaid positions). Knowledge of or training in harm reduction, anti-racism and Indigenous awareness. Comfortable and experienced with public speaking.
