Located in the Calgary NW area, SAFPC is a highly regulated and strictly controlled healthcare facility, currently caring for 35 patients, many of which are an extreme high security concern. Patients at the site are in two categories. The first being Assessment Patients, directed or ordered by the courts for psychiatric evaluation and assessment. The second being the Treatment, or NCR (Not Criminally Responsible) patients. The teams at SAFPC are small, comprising of two Peace Officers (one TL, one CPO 1) and two Paladin guards. There is also a Monday - Friday swing shift Paladin guard (10:00 - 18:00). The site has very close working relations with our clinical partners and are often the first to be asked for their observations and advice regarding the care and supervision of patients as it relates to a security concern. Officers will be expected to demonstrate a high level of empathy with often highly volatile patients while maintaining their authority and remaining supportive of clinical staff to ensure a smooth, calm and efficient operational capacity. Description:

As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver\'s Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment. Additional Required Qualifications:

Alberta class 5 operator\'s license (non-GDL), or a provincial equivalent, with no more than four demerits and no charges or pending suspensions. Current Standard First Aid and Level C CPR. Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum two years of related work experience OR a related degree or diploma in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology. Other related education may be considered. Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services. Community involvement or volunteering (unpaid positions). Knowledge of or training in harm reduction, anti-racism and Indigenous awareness. Fluent in more than 1 language is an asset. Comfortable and experienced with public speaking.
