You will be responsible for providing general customer service to patients, visitors, & others such as wayfinding, parking, & other assistance to the intervention & control of complex, violent, or aggressive/disturbing behaviors by patients, visitors or others frequenting AHS facilities. As the PSO you will be first to respond and record all security calls & Emergency Codes. Documentation & reporting are a key part of this role, you will utilize the Perspective system to prepare detailed written documentation of all security & life safety incidents. This position requires a high degree of critical thinking, sound judgement, discretion, & de-escalation techniques. Sound working knowledge of legislation, policy, & legal authorities, is a necessary skill for the PSO. Please note, this position was created to address the ongoing pandemic response. As such, they may be moved to different AHS sites within the zone to address public safety concerns.

Description:

As a Protective Services Officer (PSO) I, you will provide front line level security services designed to proactively mitigate loss or damage, de-escalate incidents of aggression and to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. You will also respond to security, fire and personal safety related issues in accordance with current legislation and established AHS and site policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver\'s Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment. Additional Required Qualifications: As Required. Preferred Qualifications: Two years post-secondary education in Security, Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice preferred. Two years related security/law enforcement experience preferred. WHMIS training preferred. Certificate in CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Pressure Point Control Tactic an asset. Current First Aid and CPR Level C \xe2\x80\x93 AED certification preferred.
