AHS has always focused on providing a safe and secure environment for all staff, patients, and families. There are 128 AHS facilities providing clinical care services that do not have full time Protective Services (PS) resources. This position is a mobile response unit for the Calgary Zone. This position will float among the city and rural areas to assist with major incidents across the zone. Mobile Units will provide a 2-hour patrol area for the majority of rural areas ensuring resources are available to respond, to prevent violence, de-escalate emotions and work with local law enforcement to mitigate risks. The successful candidate will recognize the importance of effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate inclusively and respectfully with patients, staff and families. As an RMU Officer you will exercise sound judgment while upholding AHS values and collaborate effectively with Police, municipal departments, provincial agencies, clinical partners, and community organizations on a continual basis.

Description:

As a Protective Services Officer (PSO) I, you will provide front line level security services designed to proactively mitigate loss or damage, de-escalate incidents of aggression and to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. You will also respond to security, fire and personal safety related issues in accordance with current legislation and established AHS and site policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver\'s Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment. Additional Required Qualifications: Active Community Peace Officer appointment by Alberta Solicitor General. Alberta class 5 operator\xe2\x80\x99s license, or a provincial equivalent, with no more than four demerits and no charges or pending suspensions. Current Standard First Aid and Level C CPR. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services (military, forestry, park ranger, corrections, peace officer). Cadet program experience. Community involvement or volunteering (unpaid positions). Knowledge of or training in harm reduction, anti-racism and Indigenous awareness. Fluent in more than one language is an asset. Comfortable/experienced with public speaking.
