We are one team, with one goal and we all work together to continue making our community great.The OpportunityThe Legislative and Court Services Department is comprised of three branches; Legislative Services (which includes Council Secretariat, Corporate Mail and Print Services, Vital Statistics and Access and Privacy Services), Court Services (which is responsible for the administration of justice within two court service areas in compliance with the Provincial Offences Act, the Memorandum of Understanding and Inter-municipal Service Agreements) and Enforcement Services which is responsible for administering and enforcing several municipal by-laws including but not limited to regulations related to the parking of vehicles, pet controls, property maintenance, business licensing, and sign placement).Under the general guidance and direction of the Manager of Court Services, the Prosecution Clerk position is responsible for providing administrative support to the Prosecutions Section of the Court Services Branch. Specifically, this position receives, verifies, and responds to disclosure requests; receives and distributes disclosure and prosecution briefs; at the direction of a prosecutor, prepares, serves and files motions to request adjournments of matters before the Court; provides options to defendants who wish to explore a resolution of their matter(s); accepts service of documentation on behalf of the prosecutors; drafts monthly schedules; and responds to and/or resolves inquiries, requests, and minor complaints. Overall, this position plays an integral role in providing support to the Prosecutions Section of the Court Services Branch to enable

  • One (1) year College Certificate in Office Administration - Legal, Law Clerk, or a related discipline

Experience
  • Two (2) years of cumulative part-time experience or one (1) year of full-time experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
  • General knowledge of the Provincial Offences Act, Highway Traffic Act, Liquor Licence Act, Trespass to Property Act, and other Provincial Legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to:
  • maintain a high standard of public relations at all times
  • deal with difficult customers, diffuse emotionally-charged situations and resolve customer service issues in a diplomatic and professional manner
  • maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and judgment when handling confidential, sensitive and/or controversial information
  • work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment
  • operate various office equipment such as telephone, printer, scanner, computer etc.
  • keyboard at a minimum rate of 40 words per minute
  • Intermediate skills include: attention to detail; customer service; interpersonal; organizational
  • Intermediate computer literacy using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)

  • Pay Level: Level 4
  • Yearly Salary: $52,798.20 to $63,226.80
  • Hourly Pay Rate: $29.01 to $34.74
