Across its districts, NSPHA provides more than 11,200 safe, affordable homes as part of its Housing Services to seniors and families. District offices manage the day-to-day operations of Nova Scotia\xe2\x80\x99s housing stock. Their responsibilities include administering tenant applications and placements, collecting rent, resolving tenant issues, and maintaining and repairing properties. About Our Opportunity Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Property Maintenance / Janitor is responsible to provide property maintenance housekeeping services, adhering to the standards and practices established by Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency. Primary Accountabilities

  • Under routine supervision maintain a high standard of cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in the area(s) to which they are assigned.
  • Perform inspections throughout the entire building to determine the cleanliness and security of the building.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of common areas such as elevators, laundry rooms, public washrooms, lounges, recreation areas, storage rooms, etc.
  • Prepare garbage and refuse for removal from properties and vacated premises, clean garbage rooms/chutes.
  • Clean appliances in laundry rooms, including removing lint from dryers. Sweep and wash down stairwells and stair railings. Clean storm sewers and catch pits etc.
  • Advise elevator maintenance service immediately if there is any breakdown of elevator service and advise Maintenance as to action taken or required.
  • Wash, spray buff or strip and wax all flooring as required or directed etc.
  • Remove snow from the assigned building\xe2\x80\x99s parking lot and sidewalks.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Grade 12 or high school equivalent plus two years\xe2\x80\x99 related experience.
  • Ability to understand and operate equipment involved in cleaning and tools related to ground maintenance appropriately and safely. Ability to properly handle cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Report unsafe conditions or practices and take corrective measures if possible.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to deal with co-workers, tenants, contractors and vendors, other departments, and the public in a positive, tactful, courteous and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision, as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion, sound judgment and initiative when investigating, questioning and dealing with inquiries, requests and submissions that are sensitive and confidential in nature.
  • Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and a good driving record.
Assets
  • Possess current Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
  • Perform tasks in a safe manner according to the Department of Labour and Advanced Education and EMHA safety standards and policies.

Salary Range: $17.61 to $19.40 hourly
