Job Description


:POSITION SUMMARY: As a member of the Realty Services Section Team, under the direct supervision of the Supervisor Realty Services, administer, acquire, develop, market, lease and dispose of Municipal lands and buildings in accordance with optimum real estate management practices.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Negotiate and supervise the maintenance, acquisition, development, marketing, leasing and disposal of City lands and buildings and recommend, prepare and finalize agreements and procedures related to these functions in conjunction with the City's Solicitor.
  • Prepare reports, studies, recommendations, by-laws, and other documentation related to Realty Services' functions.
  • Respond to written and verbal enquiries and liaise with other departments, public and private agencies and individuals on realty-related matters.
  • Assign work to contract personnel (lawyers, appraisers, surveyors, consultants, etc.), and provide review and analysis of work submitted to the City.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of realty legislation and practices as they relate to the functions as the Realty Services Section.
  • Provide functional guidance to more junior staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Experience:
  • Degree or diploma in business administration, planning or economics; and
  • Three years experience in the real estate field;
  • Experience in land use planning and development and property administration, along with a knowledge of legislated procedures as they relate to Municipal land functions is required; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Abilities:
  • Must be able to use a microcomputer using the City's current word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and electronic mail software, and the mainframe computer as it relates to the Division's "Realty Information System".;
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing is essential.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • May be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation
  • Applicants who do not have sufficient formal real estate credentials will be required to obtain supplementary training within two years of employment.
  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
