Job Description


Mainline Living Property Management is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Property Accountant to join our exciting organization! As a key member of our team, you will report directly to the Senior Property Accountant, assisting with all accounting and reporting functions, as well as overseeing the full cycle accounting for all Mainline Living operating companies. This position requires a high level of analytical, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills. Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the full accounting cycle for a portfolio of residential real estate properties including posting journal entries, deposits, expenditures, and all other necessary accounting activity daily to achieve timely and accurate preparation, review, and distribution of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all entities as needed.
  • Preparation and maintenance of monthly financial statement reconciliation packages for each entity, including but not limited to bank reconciliations, investments, fixed assets, note receivables & notes payable, and any other inter-company account. Provide variance commentary against budget by account for each entity, as needed.
  • Preparation of monthly bank reconciliation and reconciliation of control accounts (accounts receivable, accounts payable, security deposit) to subsidiary ledgers.
  • Preparation of annual year end audit working papers and liaison with the auditors during the field work period.
  • Reviews residential lease contract and manages move in/move out accounting process.
  • Organizes and maintains an efficient filing system to ensure easy and timely access to historical accounting information.
  • Assists with new and existing property set up, analysis, and trouble shoot software related issues; liaise with Yardi to coordinate resolution.
  • Assists the Senior Property Accountant/Controller in developing and maintaining monthly budgets on revenue and expenses. Provides updates of actual monthly financial performance for inclusion in cash flow analysis and participates in maintenance and update of cash flow analysis.
  • Works with Cash Management to review and maintain sufficient cash balances in assigned entities to achieve all operating and capital contribution goals, forecasts, and expectations.
  • Reviews expenses, invoices, POs, and other payables to ensure they are reviewed, approved, posted, and paid in a timely and accurate manner. Has discretion to reclassify accounts data when required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Accounting or Finance OR job knowledge equivalent to four years of college.
  • CPA designation is preferred.
  • 2-3 years of Property Accounting experience.
  • 5+ years of Accounting experience.
  • Proficient in Yardi Voyager; intermediate to advanced skills in Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office programs.
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to read, analyze, interpret, and write general business reports, correspondence, and procedures.
  • Must understand the current Residential Tenancy Board rules and regulations.
  • Proven self-starter with ability to think logically and problem solve effectively.
  • Ability to establish and build relationships with co-workers, vendors and residents relevant to generating/retaining leases, business and revenues; ability to develop leadership in others; team player.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills; ability to readily grasp new concepts and adapt to a fast paced, ever-changing environment
  • Multitasking skills and ability to manage competing priorities; ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; willingness to learn in a dynamic environment that includes new ideas and change.
  • Must be able to travel for meetings and business requirements.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds with assistance
