The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPR) offers a world-class education for approximately 34,000 students in 87 schools. The purpose of the Project Technologist is to plan, coordinate and manage capital projects related to architectural projects, by preparing contract documents, providing contract administration/Field engineering for various building renewal and minor/major construction/alteration projects. This position also co-ordinates regulatory issues/requirements as requested, including the Board\xe2\x80\x99s asbestos management program and ensures projects respect the requirements of related legislation, regulation and Board policy (e.g. Safe Drinking Water Act, Ontario Building Code, Fire Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Green Energy Act, Technical Standards & Safety Authority, Electrical Safety Authority). Perform contract administration, field inspections, and provide general supervision to contractors and trades while liaising with school principals and regulatory agencies to support school safety and security.

Main Responsibilities:
Provide technical support and services or work independently in the planning, design and development of all Board new builds and renovations of existing classrooms, shops, millwork, woodworking, finishing details, space planning, office spaces, gymnasiums, labs, or other structural properties. Coordinating with consultants and Board members to ensure projects meet design intent, deadlines, and customer expectations in accordance with environmental, safety, or other applicable regulations.

Functions as the project manager for all Board new builds and renovations of existing classrooms, shops, millwork, woodworking, finishing details, space planning, office spaces, gymnasiums and labs; administers contracts; supervises contractors and/or Board staff in the field; resolves problems that arise, including monitoring financial status and controls on projects; ensures work is performed on schedule, according to specifications and quality standards; provides progress reports to supervisors.

Acts as the Board representative for all Capital renewal related advice, coordinates and attends project meetings with the users, project managers, consultants, and authorities having jurisdiction, contractors and others that will be required in the program/project delivery.

Acts as liaison with various provincial bodies and assists with the approvals process for all authorities having jurisdiction. Establishes and maintains contacts with Municipal administration i.e. Building, Bylaw and Fire Inspectors and service personnel i.e., hydro, gas, water, sewer services.

Prepare and interpret conventional and computer-assisted design (CAD) engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for systems and components, millwork, woodworking & finishing details, building layouts and classroom deigns to meet Board standards, Municipal By-Laws and Provincial Regulations.

Maintains current knowledge of applicable standards, acts, codes and regulations relating to classrooms, shops, millwork, woodworking, finishing details, space planning, office spaces, gymnasiums and science labs, to ensure regulatory compliance (e.g. Safe Drinking Water Act, Ontario Building Code, Fire Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Green Energy Act, Technical Standards & Safety Authority, Electrical Safety Authority).

Assists Manager of Engineering Services with review of consultant designs relating to classrooms, shops, millwork, woodworking, finishing details, space planning, office spaces, gymnasiums and science labs to ensure conformity to Board standards/instructions, Municipal By-Laws, etc.

Interpreting the meaning of Information for others by translating or explaining information related to Architectural Technology and how it can be used. Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how classrooms, shops, millwork, woodworking, finishing details are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.

Co-ordinates the records function for the department and maintains Facilities\xe2\x80\x99 records; prepares and maintains site plans and floor plans in AutoCAD.

Monitors invoices for anomalies and suggests corrective action.

Review and approve change orders.

Inspect for compliance new builds and renovations of existing classrooms, shops, millwork, woodworking, finishing details, office spaces, gymnasiums, labs, or other structural properties.

Performs administrative duties related to Capital Development or School Renewal Projects/Programs including: preparing reports and studies; assessing, managing projects; liaising with project proponents; providing outreach to potential proponents; utilizing internal management programs for the tracking and monitoring of projects and payment; tracking and monitoring project status including project financial status; responding to requests for information internally and externally

Responds to emergency calls for capital projects under their supervision, by visiting facility or dispatching service personnel as needed to resolve problem.

Contributes to department-wide planning and development efforts for improvements in energy conservation related to renovations of existing classrooms, shops, millwork, woodworking, finishing details, office spaces, gymnasiums and labs; identifies priorities for implementation of various utility conservation systems and maintenance service programs.

Maintains contact and provides information between Schools, Facilities Services Management and Supervisors for projects, maintenance requests and budget preparation. Acts as a regular liaison with Principal, Vice-principal, Custodial Supervisor and custodial staff regarding scheduling, status, quality of work and contractors at the school.

Ensures timely completion of projects to provide schools and Board facilities with properly functioning mechanical, electrical repairs. Attends to problems to maintain customer service standards.

Plan and support the development of individual team members to effectively achieve goals.

Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Required:
Three Year Post-Secondary Architectural or Engineering Technology diploma certified through a membership with OACETT and maintaining a Certified Engineering Technologist designation.

3-5 Years\xe2\x80\x99 Experience and technical knowledge in construction administration and project management.

Supervision:
This position has indirect supervisory responsibility for multidisciplinary contracted teams (e.g. out-side contractors/vendors) for capital projects and occasionally direct supervision of in-house tradespersons (e.g. painters, carpenters, plumbers, electricians) and occasional indirect supervisory responsibility for multidisciplinary contracted teams (e.g. out-side contractors/vendors).

Specialized skills Required:
Ability to provide technical support and services in the field of Architectural Technology such as the design, development, installation and maintenance of classrooms, shops, millwork, woodworking, finishing details, office spaces, gymnasiums, labs.

In depth knowledge of various consultant, construction or construction management contracts, tendering policies and procedures, change order management, financial reporting and tracking (CCDC2).

Computer proficiency and extensive knowledge of pertinent software applications, such as AutoCAD, Adobe and Microsoft applications, word processing and spreadsheets.

In depth knowledge of life safety, universal access, ergonomics.

In-depth technical knowledge of Architectural design and construction.

Specific knowledge of regulatory requirements and codes pertinent to area of responsibility i.e. Ontario Building Code, AODA.

A commitment to service excellence.

Contributes solutions to complex situations.

Effective coaching, mentoring, conflict resolution and relationship management skills.

Superior written, presentation and verbal skills.

Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and use of own vehicle.
