And that's where you come in.
Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)
We are looking for a Project Signaling Specialist to join our team in Toronto.
The successful candidate will perform system design, signaling design, analysis, modelling and simulation to specify communication-based train control systems; develop and define system design features to meet Customer requirements; analyze and evaluate designs to verify compliance with system technical requirements; develop and define System, Subsystems requirements; develop block design, interlocking control tables, and application database for Software subsystems; and analyze and evaluate system performance and prepare associated technical contract deliverable.
The incumbent is accountable for performing the design work correctly, within cost and schedule limits, as defined in approved work packages. The work is typically defined by the Work Package Manager, then reviewed and approved by the Systems Architect and/or Manager. The System Engineer typically works with a team of engineers to define what will be designed, how it will perform and how it will be determined that it is working correctly. As Project System Design Specialist you may also be assigned to lead a group of system engineers on a project or product. This would include reviewing correcting and mentoring other system engineers.
Key Accountabilities:Technical:
+ Performs technical/engineering tasks to define application databases for software subsystems. Analysis and simulations are performed as necessary to identify design feasibility & driving requirements.
+ Prepares specialized signaling design skills, covering one or more of the following:
- Signaling Principles
- Data Requirements
- Block Design
- Interlocking Control tables
- Safe braking model
- Performance analysis and Headway simulations
- Application database design
+ Deliver the project guideway application data, signal plan, crossover coordinates, track maps, and guideway database to software groups.
+ Ensure the signaling design is implemented in accordance with applicable standards and signaling principles.
+ Analyze train characteristics and safety requirements to define the safe braking model.
+ Analyze guideway to define requirements for headway (passenger waiting time), safe train separation, interlocking requirements, new guideway elements, and guideway designs to resolve operational conflicts.
+ Convert Customer (internal and/or external) requirements into conceptual designs and prepare associated documentation by performing operational analyses, simulations, and technical trade-off studies evaluating alternative design configurations and functional features.
+ Create new concepts or modify existing concepts to fulfill customer requirements.
+ Prepare system, subsystem, and interface requirement specifications by analyzing, decomposing, modelling, and refining customer requirements and typical train control domain requirements.
+ Prepare and support bids and proposals, including customer requirements compliance assessment, gap analysis, architecture design, simulation, trade-off of key features, estimation, etc.
+ Present technical design and reports to customers and/or other engineering/management groups in clear, complete, concise, and non-ambiguous terms.
+ Define or propose updates to processes and standards covering the work and its products based on knowledge of systems engineering and/or technical specialty.
+ Operational design limits are evaluated and defined; performance analyses and simulations are developed & performed to support the above.
+ Interface and build strong working relationships with Software, Hardware, and IVVQ groups to ensure timely analysis and resolution of in-house and field test issues.
Safety:
+ Promote a safety culture where product safety is paramount.
+ Ensure that safety is built into the design by early identification and resolution of safety-related defects.
Management:
+ Mentor Signal Design Specialists by defining their work, coaching them on preparation methods, monitoring their progress, and directing priorities.
+ Propose work package estimates and descriptions based on knowledge of the work and project requirements.
+ Lead technical discussions, present technical solutions, and provide regular status reports to internal and external stakeholders.
+ Identify and implement process improvement initiatives to enhance delivery, cost, and quality.
+ Ability to work on several projects consecutively.
+ Work closely with other Work Package Managers and the project team to ensure the system team has the inputs needed to perform the design and ensure the system team is providing the necessary outputs/support to other disciplines.
